I thought I read Aug 24/26 or something like that. In zoom-zoom's post he put this link and it says late August. http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

I might not get this one if it has a diecast chassis and half an engine, although, as everyone else has said, it is an SLR, and i cant get away from that, but its not the top of my list of cars, and its a shame that it has all these corners cut. Even if the doors open (i think they do) it doesnt compensate for not having the standard of detail that the enzo does. (full engine and stuff. but not knowing much about the underside of the slr it might'nt be that bigger problem if its flat all over like an enzo.
I think mine will be converted to a 772 slr (at least cosmetically.)
Look forward to seeing the WIPS for it.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

I just saw a very rich man driving the SLR crosstown this morning. Gunmetal grey, spotless, amazing rims. The owner looked like Flavio Briatore. Although I can't afford this car, i'll be just as happy with the 1/24 Tamiya...

If it's not full detail, I think it's time we organise a petition or a letter to Tamiya to tell them there's less interest in their ptroduct if they don't try hard.

on this. Its time tamiya got thier butts back into gear. The Enzo and the Carerra GT were fantastic, but the slr sounds like its full of cut corners. and when it reaches the UK it will be about £37. (i did the currency conversion from yen, and its like £22, and the price always takes a steeo hike before it gets to the UK. Also, £17 is what a basic tamyia costs (no or little engine (curbside, like a nissan skyline or a porsche 911 gt3, so for a tamyia with just a plate for an engine a price hike of near twenty pounds is a bit much.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Here in Spain it will be also something like 56 or 58 euro, as latest tamiya releases are.

I do think that tamiya has focused on RC or any other thing... what they are doing with our models is a disaster.

I pre-ordered this model from hlj for 3800 Japanese Yen (£17.44 GBP), this included a 5% discount for early pre-booking. It is available now for 4000 Japanese Yen (£18.43). S&H will be a further 800 - 1200 Yen (£3.67 - £5.50). So making this model considerably cheaper than the expected £30. 00 + in UK Stores. The only possible downside is the fact that the taxman may want a share, but its right on the borderline allowance of £18.00 GBP in the UK (S&H is not included).

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

It will be near $70 in Canada. For a low detail kit, forget about that. I prefer getting one of their old 1/12 kit in the $70-$120 price range.

Yeah, models are so expensive in Canada. But we will be able to get it from model express for 50-55$ or buy it on ebay for 40-45$ :-)

I am still gonna get this kit, because it's a nice car that I will never be able to afford the real one, but I am not in a hurry, I got so much better kit to build :-)

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Why do we always get the same discussion whenever Tamiya releases something new?

You certainly don't need to write a letter to tell Tamiya that there's less interest in their 1/24 kits- they're already very aware of that. There isn't the market for 1/24 kits that there was 10 years ago (for whatever reason- diecasts are likely a factor), and Tamiya certainly has the market research division they need to know this. They can't justify the development costs for new kits. Personally, I think they're doing a terrific job using the resources they have- reissiung older kits and such.

You can petion, picket, boycot, scream, yell and threaten, but there's really extremely little we can do to change the trend. If you like the kit (warts and all), great- buy one or three. If not, great- don't buy one. But don't think that you're going to send Tamiya a message by not buying it- they got that message years ago.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Why then is Fujimi and Revell-Germany on such a roll??? Sure, their kits may not equal Tamiya's, but they are producing more and more 1/24 car kits.
