Re: Fujimi Veilside MR2 SW20 In Progress

OH F***!!!
I was just thinking this kit would have to be one of the most challenging projects that I've ever had to do. Since day one there were fit problems, paint problems and pure bad luck... Well its happened again I've just finished airbrushing the window trim, I was starting to peel off the mask and I noticed that during this process it caught the edge of the decal and tore the edge of it. I clearcoated the whole car and didnt think that something like this would happen.I can only guess that when i was cutting the mask around the window surround it manage to crack the clear coat therefore lifting the carbon when i peeled away the mask.

Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem? I was thinking of just laying a small square of carbon in the affected corner, line up the weave then mask and clear coat the whole hood again. If any one has any other ideas let me know.

On the positive side the interior is now finished,im pretty happy with the carbon and red combination.Seats were given a dark red wash as well as using a fine line gundam pen to pick out the creases on the seat. I also added a pair of white TRD logos on the headrest just to add a little bit of extra detail.

Despite of the problems i guess ill keep working on other parts of the car, hopefully fix the hood problem and get this baby finished.Any feedback, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Besides the fact that I'm still amazed by your project I'd say the decal problem is according to your skills easy to fix... I would cut out the piece that's stuck on the tape and cut it out of the CF decal sheet again. Add it... done... Though, you'll need clear coat again... Anyways the interior looks amazing and the CF dash is a master piece when it comes to CF skills.

OT, Hiro you seem to have started the MR-2 kit... Is it still in progress or is it on a very very long hold??? I think not only me but loads of other people would be interested in what you'll do with it...

I was thinking that the split five spokes that you put on the other mr2 in your sig would look really good.
That interior is flawless and looks absolutely awesome.
I havent really worked with carbon decals that much. But I would say to get the best result just try and get the dcal that is on there off and re decal it. Cause unless you line the peice up absolutely perfectly. It will always be noticable.

I would have taken the whole carbon decal off, but since it has been clear coated it would be tricky and may damange the surrounding paint work. I think i will just blend the decals and feather in some clear coat on the affected areas with my airbrush level it out then polish.Fingers crossed! Just annoyed that everytime i make progress i go backwards one step due to bad luck.. but then again its very rare that you build a kit that is absolutely perfect.

Re: Fujimi Veilside MR2 SW20 In Progress

Hi Guys

Just a quick update, This project has been a real challenge, last time i tore the edge of the carbon while i was spraying the window surounds and since then its has gone downhill big time!! I tried to replace the affected area but had another disaster with the clear coat and masking tape so the whole carbon on the bonnet had to come off. Another sheet of carbon later i had bubbles after i sprayed the clear coat so off it goes again! Another attempt then another misserable failure. To sum it up on a nut shell i have replaced the carbon decal on the hood 3 times and counting! Maybe this car wasnt destined to have carbon bonnet

Anyway i thought i need to get a way and take a break on the bonnet and finish the rest of the chassis, leave the body for last.

Painted the engine and plastic panels on the chassis. I also scratchbuilt the exhaust to replicate the same HKS Super Dragger exhaust i have on my MR2.I cut the stock ehaust in half and used a combination of different size plastic sprue.I will put a polished aluminium tube for the exahaust tips.

Anyway ive gone this far and im determined to finish this project. More updates soon. Thanks again for the encouragement and feedback.

Keep up the good work!! The harder the kit is to get right, the better you'll feel when it's completed!! You can make this one shine like the stars!!

That exhaust is gorgeous. All the work you've been able to do to this car makes it look like you're going to wrap it up well regardless of the setbacks. Don't lose heart, it's going to rock!

That interior looks pretty nice. The wash and gundam marker treatment really added another dimension to it.

Re: Fujimi Veilside MR2 SW20 In Progress

I seen this project from day one, i wanna see it done. The interior looks flawless. With the decal problem i would cut out an exact size of the missing piece, but try to make it match up with the weave, maybe overlaping the existing cf a tiny bit?
