Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
I found that it's just a tick better than the old SNJ powders (now Hawkeye Hobbies). The SNJs were just more finicky. KSG is very easy. I used it to great effect with late 70s/early 80s F1 chassis...

You'll be stunned, as long as the black enamel base is smooth. It's rediculously shiny and awesome.

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Does it still work effectively if you polish the black enamel undercoat to remove any orange peel before applying it?

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
It appears you guys are getting a nice, "bright" chrome finish using this material. I tried over a VERY smooth base of Tamiya TS Black and the effect was more of an Alclad polished aluminum or a dark, black, chrome. Any ideas on what might be preventing this from polishing to a more bright chrome finish? The effect is quite nice, just not as "chrome" as I was hoping.

Kinda looks like a car straight from Dubai!
![]() ![]() I think it'd be a neat idea if you added some Mclaren Rocket Red graphics. |

Chrome is kinda dark as it is in nature (due to reflection). I've seen the same thing on '70s F1 chassis. It can be dark (dependent on the background) or very bright in the sun. |

I've found that unpolished Alclad black undercoat is shinier than just about any other black, even polished Tamiya lacquer. Alclad and Spaz Stix stick much better to the Alclad undercoat.

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Put the KSG on thick. Alclad undercoat I'm almost certain is an enamel, as that's what Alclad recommends. KSG recommends the same thing. They do "stick" much better to the paint, as it's much softer than lacquers.

Sometimes I use it when I want a really glossy, piano black finish. It you're using it as a finish, it takes several days to dry. But for undercoat, one day is plenty. I'll use it under the KSG when it gets here from Japan.
