Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

Ok, ill buy some, but my intercooler is like...massive lol. I dont think theres room for it and that bumper crash bar. And I didnt know it was made out of fiberglass, the thing im talking about looks like its made out of some kind of durable metal...goes across the front like the white one in your pic, but mines black...can I live without it? or is it necessary to stay? I see how people have taken it off, and cut parts of the back of it off for intercoolers to fit in....but I havent looked at mnine yet to see if this would work with my setup.

jason, do you mean to say you made little 1/4'' pieces like...and just keep sticking them in one at a time? how on earth do you fish them out of the bolt hole, a telescoping magnet?

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

Man, if it wasn't 3 hours from Florence to here, id seriously pay you gas $ to come do it for me lol.

If this method you have described doesnt work im going to be taking it either down the rd to a guys house with air tools, or to the machine shop. Either way, this is extremely aggrivating.

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

The front supports come in black as well. Actually mines the only one I've seen that I can remember that's not black. I personally would not drive without it. That's your entire front crash support. God forbid you hit something without that on. I would cut it as little as possible to get the FMIC to fit in there. It's thick and durable so it can take some cutting. But dont entirely leave it off.

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

I hacked mine up a bit to fit my FMIC. Google this idea and see what others have done.

Exactly, stack them and use a magnet to get them back out. I used an impact gun which probably made this a little easier for me.

An impact gun to turn the puller bolt?

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

It just makes it a lot less work, you could just use a wrench but it might be hard to turn. We held the puller with a wrench and used an impact to turn the bolt and it came right off after a few minutes.

If you wanted a steel rod, should have just had your mom call me.

Not a problem yo. You'll find other uses for that stuff too, if not on the car, around the house and stuff. Very universal.

Dammit. Ok you win this round...just bc i cant think of anything good to say back lol

But, now I just need to find the right size bolts and it should go in like cake. Im going to cut up the crash bar tonight and get that all squared away and ready.

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

just cut a section out of the crash bar, boy that was harder than id expected. That stuff is surprisingly difficult to cut into..

But it all fits so mission accomplished for today

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

What are you using to cut up the crash bar? I used a ricipricating saw. Went through 4 blades but only took about 40 minutes start to finish.

Re: Junkies 97 RS Rebuild(1st timer!)

I used an angle grinder on mine. Completely grinded down the disc that I was using, but worked fine. Remember, that thing is too absorb the entire impact.. it better be heavy material.
