Bush was an alcoohlic, he's maybe not any more, but I meant that he's taking American people for stupid people when he's saying that he is not any more alcoohlic thanks to god and jesus.... heum ! He's the president of one of the most powerfull country in the world and he's saying that !

We've heard these things about Jacques Chirac but he was never recognized guilty, contrary to François Mittérand.

> Tomlong : "According to you guys their is no need to learn other languages because we are going to take over the world anyways!"

.... some people are saying that, and it's surely not true, but that has been said with the war in Iraq which was not necessary, that's another problem.
I see the ironic sense but alas, too many Americans speak only English and don't care about the rest of the world. Not all of course, hopefully.

The people are obviously misinformed. Seeming how 17.9% which equates to 51 million people in our country speak a language other than english as their primary language at home. That is only 8 Million people less than the entire French population. Than if we take into account that most school systems require you to take a foreign language for at least two years(i took german for four years) which we will never use than I would have to say that we are probably the most diverse nation in regards to Ethnic background.

In France (and that's not very different in other European countries), we have to learn English, Spanish or German as 9 years old, and to take a second language at 11.
I went many time in the USA (California, Nevada, NY, Viginia, Florida, Chicago, etc.) and I met some Americans. None of them spoke another language than English, only Spanish for 2 Mexicans I met in Tempa...

But stop the war ! I said that because Pick seems to laugh about my English which is indeed far to be perfect. But I'm going on an American forum because it's interesting to discuss with other people from other countries, as I go on an Italian and a French one. And of course I don't write with my dictionnary under my hand, so I do what I can.

You are correct to assume that this can be taken in two contexts. It depends on the way it is said.
