Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
update...
firstly I apologise for the poor quality pictures, my little Sony didnt do as well as it normally does and these are way too dark and too contrasty - will take some more in daylight next time. I have added the exhaust pieces which attach to the engine, I got rid of the resin versions and made these from solder, I polished the solder first and then added a little Tamiya Clear Blue, Orange and Red to show heat staining. I have never used solder before however it is easy to bend into the right shape and gives a really realistic metal effect. ![]() ![]() For the rest of the exhaust Im reverting back to the Hasegawa parts, I had to fill the silencers with filler as Hasegawa strangely decided to leave a big hollow in them. I will drill the ends to thin the pipes and get these painted up. ![]() Having completed this I then turned to chassis and engine surround, I built up the discs and suspension as per the front ones (I have still to add the brake cables), the rest went on as per the instructions but I added some brass nuts to the end of the suspension ends. ![]() So finally the engine went in, I have just got to add the axle for which Im using two pieces of metal rod (dont worry I can still get them in!!!) ![]() ![]() I thought I had made an almightly b**ls up with the exhausts in terms of placement as with the end sections attached, one protrudes alot further out of the back end than the other one, but checking my ref pics I was relieved to see that is what they are like on the real car - very odd indeed! Thanks for staying tuned and again sorry for the crap pics, more details on the engine to come next Sean __________________________ http://scalereproductions.co.uk __________________________ |

I have yet to use solder for exhaust but yours looks very realistic. Can't beat the look of real metal.

Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
a little further progress...
wheels are finished, these are the Studio 27 metal upgrades and are superb, these were simply primed and then sprayed with a good bright yellow. I added a set of Sakatsu valves and also ran a little thinned matt black into the centre recess and bolt holes. In the Acu-stion set there are some beautifully etched Lancia logo wheel centres but I dont think these were on the Rally cars, only on the street production models. ![]() Further details to the engine, I scratched an oil collector from an old piece from the spares box, I drilled a couple of holes and added joints for the two hoses to connect to. I know there is a 3rd hose however I have not included this one. ![]() Finally also added the coil just above the distributor, a single red cable is still to be added to this. I attached it using bare metal foil to simulate the bracket. ![]() more soon, hopefully! Sean __________________________ http://scalereproductions.co.uk __________________________ |

Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
Looking good.
I have found that spare bits of p/e sprue are great for making brackets for things like coils.

Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
More progress,
the engine is on hold while I build the two fuel tanks which sit either side of the engine. So i thought I would get on with a little decal work - I couldnt resist as the body is sprayed and ready. ![]() ![]() Finished the light pods, spoiler and louvre. On the spot light cover I am going to add a couple of metal catches either side which would hold it in place over the top of the lights. For the louvre's bonnet pins I drilled two small holes, inserted a thin metal rod and placed the etched part through this - in effect almost exactly the way the real version works. There are a further 4 of these to add to the model. The decals are going on well so far, as long as I use the obligatory Micro Set / Sol. more again soon... Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
Final update of the day,
the rear section is almost complete, I have left off the 'Alitalia' wording on the side, I want to get the rear cover attached on the car first and then I can make sure all the decals on the sides are centred etc. The underside of the whole hood is painted matt black as per my ref pics. For the race plate that sits on the top I used the S27 raised plate and added the kit decal over the top which gives a wonderful 3D effect to the decal as originally it was on these boards. ![]() with some careful masking the lower centre section of the tail was sprayed semi-gloss black ![]() a further little close up of the excellent S27 bonnet catches, some of the most realistic I have seen yet. ![]() Finally, completed the light pod with two metal catches attached either side. ![]() Thanks again for staying tuned, unfortunately it may be a few days before I can get back onto the model now. Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
I have followed this from the beginning, and it looks great!
I am thinking about doing one now too. Damn I wish I was more original and did this stuff first, lol. Oh well, know what they say, "imitation is the most sincere form of flatery". LOL |

Re: WIP: Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1/24 1977 Monte Winner
Nice work on the decals Sean,I know from building this kit myself they can be a bit tricky. Those catches do look the part as well. It's really starting to come together now.Look forward to more updates.
