Re: would you buy another ford truck??

i am a tech at a ford dealer and i drive a chevy to work. not too much wrong with 97-03 f150s but i do make alot of money off of them b/c of the common coil problems and idle problems on them. my 99 z71 has 170,000 miles on it and its still goin like a rock. bottom line, if u buy a ford then you prob come see me. love my chevy

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

Well, don't own a F150, just a Ford Ranger. However, since I'm so pleased with my ranger, I'll probably move up to a F150 someday.

Best Regards,
Stan

Cool Re: would you buy another ford truck??

I have a 95 F150 with 166000 miles, I bought it in 1997. It has been a very good truck. I just recently changed the clutch and the rear differential gears (3:08 to 3:73) because I pull a 5000# 21 ft. deck boat. I was going to upgrade to the F250 diesel but after looking at the 2007 Toyota Tundra I may have to change my mind. I am not particulary brand loyal as I have owned 3 fords, a Pontiac, an Oldsmobile, a Chevy, a Geo and 2 Toyotas. I will say though that Ford builds an exceptional truck.

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

cylinder sequence as in, which order they reach TDC?

vavle opening/closing, firing order and cylinder sequence is all the same. it's a 4-stroke, all cylinders run the same strokes.

if cylinder 1 fires first, it hits TDC first, and so on.

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

I have only ever owned one, 1977 F-250 460cid/C6 tranny, Camper Special Long bed.

My dad bought it approx. 1980, then I bought it from him in 1991, truck ran fine for years, wasn't until it passed 100k miles that it started having problems. I babied it along replacing parts as they died, the thing nickeled and dimed me to death. I finally sold it a few years ago, I still see it around town from time to time.

I have no experience or knowledge of the newer trucks, I have been told that the best trucks that Ford ever made were from the late 1970s but I don't know for sure.

I currently own a 1999 Suzuki Esteem, this car has been a dream, it just rolled 110k miles, besides regular maint. (oil, filters, brakes, etc.) I have had to replace one $92 part.

But to answer the question, no I will not buy another Ford, not until they earn the reputation that Asian cars have for their reliability.

Are you saying the truck was roughly 20 yrs old before it surpassed the 100K mark?

Yes, somewhere between 15 and 20 years old it passed 100k miles, we lived in a small town, you didn't have to go far to get anywhere.

I own a 1975 F-100 3spd with a straight 6 in it . It has over 130,000 plus miles on the original engine. It Has been very loyal to me and very dependable. So the Answer is Yes I would But Nothing Newer than 1975.
