well, I brought it to the track once, and it was my first time. The first run my friend took it out and ran a 15.2 @ 92 MPH. And then I did the 15.5..... It's def capable of better, just I'm not used to the track - this spring ill get better. My 60 ft time was 2.3 and my friends was 2.1 - that says a lot too.... i suck, lol.

any tips? i think my launches are what screws me up....

145,000 Kilometers = 90,098.823 Miles according to altavista's distance converter. And as far as I'm concerned thats not alot for a 97 cavalier that I paid only $1100 for and now after the paint and new parts the total amount i've put into it is about $2000.00 Canadian which works out to about $1600 U.S. which is pretty damn good if I say so myself.
and NFG your car is 2004! ofcourse it's going to take another 6 or so years to get that many miles on it my car took 9 years and its a 97 but has been drivin since 96...

Re: Official Show off your car post and what your all about!

Well, like I said, I didn't know the exact equation, but my estimation was still pretty close. From what I hear though, Cav's generally don't last past 100k miles without some serious problems. I know some people here have seem much more than 100k, but I'm sure those miles didn't come without lots of maintenance and repairs. You did get a good deal, I'm not knocking you, but most likely you paid 1,600 for a car thats probably gonna last you about 6-9 months before it needs repairs on top of the repairs it already needs.

On an unrelated note, the salesman told me the ecotec's were build to last much much longer than the older 2.4 and 2200's. Of course, it was coming from a salesman, so I don't know what to believe. And the ecotec's haven't been around that long, so I don't know if anyone has one yet with 100k+ miles on it yet, but I doubt it. Does anyone know the life expectancy of the eco?

I know everyone's experience is different, but I've had good luck with Cavaliers. My wife and I had a '90 with a 2.2 that ran over 200,000 miles with nothing replaced but an alternator.
My dad had an '85 with the 2.0 that also went over 200,000 but I don't know what previous owners might have done to it.

Re: Official Show off your car post and what your all about!

My mom's 98 sunfire with the 2200 engine has 235,000km which is approx. 146,000 miles and when I drove that car I didn't go easy on it. The most expensive thing we've had to replace in that car was the AC fan which was about $110 which included labour. also the two front struts and the supports for the struts had to be replace which was more expensive but that could have been prevented... everything else is pretty much basic maintenance like oil changes, replaced brakes a couple times all four corners. and 3 sets of tires including winter tires which we switch back and fourth with our all seasons. So for the amount of mileage put on it along with the amount of abuse it has been given it's held up really well. Hopefully mine turns out the same way but I kinda doubt it considering the condition I got it in. But you can't say most cavs/suns don't last past 100,000 miles without serious problems I'm sure my mom's isn't the only one.

Re: Official Show off your car post and what your all about!

There are 1.6 kms to a mile. The ecotec is supposed to last longer in order for GM to lengthen their Warranty to keep up with the rest of the industry. The EcoTec was developed by Opel in Europe. It will not handle boost though!

exerpt from and artical on EcoTecs;

GM Racing began the tuning process on a Heinen-Freud water-brake dyno using the stock intake and exhaust manifolds and a modified stock downpipe plumbed without muffler directly into the dyno cell's exhaust removal system. It turns out a well-tuned stock 10:1 2.2-liter Ecotec in the above configuration actually develops 168 crankshaft hp (which is above the factory rating of 140-150 as installed in various vehicles in the United States and Europe).

At this point, the team began to pump up the volume in a rigorous series of tests while a crew stood by with fire extinguishers. Testing at a given power level concluded when the engine could survive a series of 8-10 full-power dyno "Sprints" from peak torque through maximum power in 50 rpm steps, concluding with at least six seconds at full power, for a total of at least 20 very hard seconds. GM Racing successively verified the Ecotec survived happily at 200, 225 and 250 hp over numerous dyno pulls.

However, as the Ecotec pushed through 283 hp at 4400 rpm, all four connecting rods simultaneously failed catastrophically and smashed through the side of the block.

Here's a link to the full article, eventually they got it up to over 800hp, obviously not stock internals at that point:

http://www.year2032.com/ecotec.htm

There is some info for you.

89000 miles isn't a lot when it's mostly highway as the motor never does any reall work! Beside the real factor is how the car was driven and maintained by previous owner(s). If you check everything before buying then you can more or less tell whewthewr it should be good or not! The 2.4 wont last as long under normal driving condition but will probably take more punishment. Personally I wouldn't mod and Ecotec except for a mild n/a job!

Re: Official Show off your car post and what your all about!

Well that's not very comfortable to know. The guy at the performance shop said Eco's handle nitrous very reliably, better than most all four bangers. But if @ 283hp it blows up, thats not good...

If you're running say a CAI full exhause with header and hi flow cat and then a dry shot say 50 you'll only be pushing 225 or so! But I wouldn't want to go anyhigher than a 50 shot on stock internals!

Re: Official Show off your car post and what your all about!

He said a 100hp wet shot boost would be completely safe to run over and over and over on a completely stock cavi.

Well as long as they installed it then I guess you'd be ok as he said it would be ok! Might cause some problems. I can't see that using a 100 shot over and over would be ok though! Although you're not actually forcing in any more air/fule but just making the mix more potent! I guess then it is viable! The rods and pistons wouldn't be working harder to compress the already compressed mixture from a turbo! Would try and speak to someone running N2O on an EcoTec first though before running that abount of laughing gas!
