Huh??
![]() Unless you are asking if someone else saw the car first and told me - then yes, that is correct. Musk was lost, trying to find a political fundraising party at the home of David Murdoch, and my friends happened to drive past him as he was looking for that location. They called me, but failed to stall him long enough, and led him back to Murdoch's estate where he drove in the gate. I arrived about two minutes too late, and was unable to see the car from the street and of course was not allowed in to the party. I was going to wait there for him to leave, but I had other plans. I did come back later that night to see if he would still be there, and halfway back to Murdock's Musk's F1 passed me going the opposite direction. I definitely consider my encounter luck even though I had some knowledge that was able to help me. Had my friends not decided to head that way that day, or ignored the fact that I am the biggest McLaren F1 fan they know, I would have missed the opportunity to see an F1 that was hanging out less than 5 minutes from my house. How sad do you think I would have been to hear about that later. >8^) ER |

Mr.Bernoulli, any more information on that car would definitely help. Right now we're guessing it's #36, but already having it's appearance altered drastically with the mirrors and rims, I wouldn't be surprised if it has been repainted.

We are familiar with that car now - photos of it surfaced within the past few months. I found the first one. Here are some others:http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=131713 It could to hear more about F1s that are daily driven. You can't really get away with that with many other Supercars. As McLaren F1 Guy mentioned, if you can find out exactly which F1 that is, we'd really appreciate it. As for other F1s with high mirrors, I have seen video of one silver F1 road car fitted with them. We've also seen just a few photos presumed to be of one of Ralph Lauren's F1s in silver wearing the high mirrors as well. Those two cars could be one in the same, but that makes a total of three at least, assuming that the blue F1 isn't a refit. Its tough when you have to speculate on things... >8^) ER |

Re: Locations of McLarens in the US...
Peloton25,
Pages 188-189 of the Good Book chronicle the build of chassis 071 (according to the first caption--more on that later) This is a historic orange car and has high mirrors. I have not noticed this car mentioned before, maybe I just glossed over the post or something. In any case, there are two pics at the bottom of pg 188 that show a placard sitting on top of the roof air intake. This placard says, "099 LHD". It is car #61 in the cumulative build # and no matter how I add up all cars produced, my sum for this car's position is never 99. What do you make of this? Greg A |

#071 is supposedly Chris Dawes F1. That's the one mini magic mentioned earlier. Apparently the F1 he crashed, killing himself and his two passengers, was not his own, so that car apparently this F1 still exists. It was reported that the F1 he wrecked belonged to a relative - maybe his father?
I see the photo you are referring to with the "099 LHD" sign. I have no idea what that would mean. It certainly doesn't correlate with build order for that car. Also, since there were no LHD (left-hand drive) McLaren F1's - they were all center drive as I'm sure most are aware - I have no clue what that would stand for either. This car reappeared earlier this year in some photographs in some British magazine if I recall correctly. Maybe mini magic remembers since he's the one who originally found them. There's a website for the photographer that has the photos up, but I don't recall his name at the moment. I'm sure Chris will. >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 12-13-2003 at 08:26 AM. |

And I might be seeing an F1 in Australia soon!, but no confirmation as yet ![]() -Mike

Yeah - most definitely a typo - I fixed it now.
Thanks McLaren Mike - the difference between me an Einstein is that he came up with his own theories about stuff whereas I just catalog the ones I get from other sources to use later. -heheAs I always say - make certain you get the chassis number of any McLaren F1 you see. >8^) ER |

Perhaps the "LHD" signifies the driving law requirement of the country where the car was to be registered. Are there any differences in McLarens made for RHD countries? I would have thought the car would be identical regardless of driving laws since it is center drive, but I don't recall reading any details regarding that before. Greg A |
