Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

LoL... funny...

So hmm hows the progress?

For me, i bought the Ecotec Turbo exhaust manifold from that happythoughts47 guy on ebay, hope it will be good enough to last for a little while then im gonna get a good one...

What kind of injecters should i get and also what kind of spark plugs?

I should get a turbo timer too right? Would you guys recommand HKS, Apexi or Greddy? They are all around $100 so i can get anyone of them... Here's a link to a bunch of them...

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

you dont need a turbo timer....as long as you let your car idle for 15 seconds after driving hard, you can keep your $100. I have had a turboed car for 1.5 w/ a bigger turbo than the one you're looking at getting and i've never worried about it.

You're going to need a set of at least 440cc injectors and an aftermarket Walbro in-tank fuel pump. I'm not sure which style of injectors your car uses though....

As for spark plugs, i know what mine are. Go to NAPA or Advance and ask for the Cavalier equivalent of the NGK BKR7ES series....they're gapped at .32 from the factory which should be pretty close to what you're going to need. I personally run a .28 gap, but my car makes a little more power and spark tends to blow out a little easier....

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

NGK, cant i buy spark plugs online somewhere that are meant for boost?
Or the ones at NAPA will be good enough for my setup? How many steps colder are those? I doubt they will have cavalier/sunfire spark plugs here in hawaii, but i will check...

Also the fuel injectors, you told me to use 550cc, so im gonna stick with that... i dont know actually, derk said about 80% 0f the injector, so if i have 550cc, then i will have about 440cc actual fuel injecting in, which is alot and i dont know if 7-8 psi's from this turbo will mix well with 440cc of fuel... will it? i dont know the formula or ratio or anything, what should my a/f ratio be?

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

What is a LSD and what is a diff? does it stand for diffrential? Also what is port and polish?

well after i boost my car i will be building it up, but thats long time from now, but i would still like to learn about this stuff...

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.ph...39182&t=139182

But thats later on, so i should be learning about tuning...

OKAY i found this injection kit thingy... I dont know what it is, do i need this?
http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.ph...=28096&t=28096

I think its to inject water/alcohol, im confused... I dont need this right? What does it do?

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

l.s.d. stands for limited slip differential. and yes, diff is short for differential. a port and polish is something done to the cylinder heads on both the intake and exaust sides. they grind and sand out any irregularities in the runners and improve the airflow both into the engine and out. i dunno wat the water/alcohol injection thing is, all i know is that you dont need it. im guessing its to spray water or some sort of liquid on the intercooler to cool the charged air. just a guess though...

You didnt tell me what LSD does, i know what it is...

Hmm, for the fuel injectors, what brand should i get and high or low resistence?

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

I'd say 95% of the stuff I'm sending you is off. I have the turbo, IC and BOV all out and sitting ready to be cleaned up and shipped. I haven't took off the oil line yet because it is a BITCH to get to, and I really didn't feel like trying to pull it off with my mom's tools... You know how hard it is to take stuff off when you don't have a 13mm or a 15mm wrench/socket... That's like everything under the hood of our cars, lol.

oh the intercooler core is 21"x7'x2.5", and the whole thing is the same only 25" long instead of 21".

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

OHHHH sounds great!!! Are you pipings 2.5" or 3"?

I believe you have 2.5"

Should I do 2.5" IC setup and 2.5" Exhaust setup?

Is 2.75" or 3" better than 2.5?

I haven't decided yet, because im not sure, so what size should i do? 2.5" sounds good yeah? It is about which size perform better, i have to choose one anyways...

Also, should i buy the more expensive "silicone" couplers instead of the "rubber" couplers?

Derk, you are only giving me the boost gauge right? So i have to buy my A/F gauge? Don't you need the narrowband sensor to work with the A/F Gauge? Don't you need it? The A/F Gauge im gonna buy doesnt come with a narrowband sensor, actually, what is a narrowband sensor? Why is it called that and does it only work with A/F? Hmm, im gonna get 3 gauges, what is the last one that i should get? Oil Temp. or Oil Pressure?

Where can i buy a narrowband sensor if the A/F Gauge im buying doesnt come with one?

What is a wideband sensor and what does that do and why is that called a wideband?

I really REALLY need help with injectors and fuel pump and fuel rail, do i need an aftermarket fuel rail? do i need an aftermarket fuel pump?
If so, what type/brand/style of fuel rail and/or fuel pump should i get?

About the fuel injectors... i dont know what brand to get, i know the size, you guys both said 550cc so i think im gonna get those, but what brand? Which ones will fit my car? If you guys dont know im gonna go ask on Jbody.org, they should know...

About the boost controller, Do i NEED one? I mean, the turbo is internally gated at 7 psi's and i dont really need to change it, i cant anyway, my ecotec can only handle around 8 psi's, and i just want to leave it at 7-8 until i build up the engine later...

Last question for now... I wanna do a 3" exhaust, so i need a 3" DP, hmm, is cat-delete better than a magnaflow hi-flow cat? i know cat-delete is illegal, but how much more horses, or less restriction flow will you get if you delete the cat? is it worth being illegal? Also, is it good or okay to get a 3" x 28" Glasspack when im re-doing the exhaust? It will make the exhaust sound deeper and nicer-tone, but will it add restriction and back pressure? It is only $30 for 28" of the glasspack tube comparing to more expensive of the 28" stainless steel by 3", but i can do the stainless steel tube instead of the glasspack if it is better than the glasspack...

Im all into performance and what is good for my setup, i am willing to spend money on little stuff like that even if i have to save up alittle while for it...

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

you're like a kid a christmas, lol...

First off if you're serious about doing turbo don't ever say the words narrowband again. Highly inaccurate and won't do you any justice.

You NEED a wideband sensor + a WIDEBAND guage... It tells you your true A/F instead of just Rich/Lean...

If you get HP tuners you can get rid of almost any sensor and fool your car into thinking it read something... I don't have any o2 sensors, just my Wideband... My IAT is off, and so is my oil... thing. ...

if you're going for 3 guages, get boost...(my boost)... Wideband 02, and Oil PRESSURE, it's very important to know your oil pressure because if your pressure drops or something comes off it could seriously fuck up your turbo...

What guage should I get to replace my boost gauge guys???

You can get a wideband sensor + gauge off of ebay, the same one I did for relatively cheap.

Don't worry about boost controller 7psi is fine for your engine, unless you plan on upgrading but for now it's fine ...

You could get 123231234012031290347312039712093712037 cc Injectors, and they would fit your car as long as you do it right...

You need to solder the wires onto the injectors harness..
unless you can find a direct replacement... Like the brown tops I have just fit RIGHT in the wires in the harness hooked up perfect for the brown top harness...

I think you should get either brown or green tops... I've seen turboed/s'chd Z's with green tops and heard no complaints.

The IC is 2.5, the pipe that the BOV is currently in is 2.5... so I would suggest 2.5" IC piping.

As for your exhaust, the quicker it can get out the better... You want the ultimate performance? run a dump.... if you wanna try to be semi street legal, cat-delete.... Most shops won't even touch your car if you cat isn't there, so you better know some people if you're going to have it done for it, lol... the downpipe adapter is for 2.5" but I'm still not sure it's going to be usable, it has my downpipe welded to it...hmm...

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

WoW!!!

I read this and i learned so much OMG!!!

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.ph...23136&t=123136

HOLY CRAP!!! i should read it like so much earlier...

But what you said just added to everything and it completed my circle of questions, thanks Derk!!!

K so im gonna buy injectors, they all fit so im gonna get the green or brown tops... Oh and i need an aftermarket fuel pump...

I need a wideband and gauge, dude, AEM wideband is like $400 wtf??? hope ebay is cheaper...

So i will take over your boost gauge, hmm, what is wideband 02? I will definitely get the oil pressure...

No need for a boost controller YES!!!

K im thinking of 2.5" IC piping and 3" exhaust, cat-delete, and still do my dual exhaust magnaflows... the shop that i go to are a bunch of "crazy" ppl, the owner's son has a 8 second crx so im not worried about no help if anything comes up... im sure they will me out even i dont have a cat lol...

Quote:
Most stock cars use a bypass valve also know as a recirulating blow off alve becasue it is quieter. MAF based cars use a bypass valve because tha air is already counted and it is was vented to atmosphere the ecu wouldn't know how much fuel to add.
HMmm, k im worried about something, i read that if you use a BOV instead of a bypass valve, then the computer will misjudge about how many fuel to send and i will be running rich alot?

So hmm im gonna go setup a paypal account so i can send you the money fast and easy lol... sounds good?

So did you take everything out and weight in a box? or are you still waiting for your friend to give you your tools back?
Its okay if you are waiting, i dont mind cuz i dont have enough money to buy everything i need including the HPTuner...

Once i get the HPT you will help me tune my car right? Since you did it...

How big is your Turbo? like how big is the compressor and the turbine?

wow...half of the questions you're asking aren't going to help you because you dont know enough to understand the answers

You need to take a step back and read for a while...you're asking the dumbest fucking questions and trying to rush. That is going to lead you into problems. If you can narrow down questions, PM me because i'm not even going to try sort through this mess of a thread

Re: Boosting plan, tell me if im doing the right thing...

the quotes inside the PM get bad, trust me, lol.

No I just need to get my oil line off, and I'm dreading it...

GOOD news, I think my issue with my car was with my manifold being cracked because we did a compression test and it read 175 all across the board. they were all within 3 of 175. So my head gasket isn't bad....

I think I'm gonna go order a header now
