Re: 406.60mph WIP

Awesome! I'd forgotten about this build, but I'm glad it's come back from the dead! It's one of the coolest projects around and you're doing a freakin' amazing job on it. Too bad about the accident, but at least it sounds like nothing really major is borked. I can't wait to see the chassis done, and you getting started on the body. You're quickly becoming one of my favorite builders here.

Great to see this build back from the dead. Looking forward to seeing it come together. Sorry to hear about the mishap.

Mike.

Hello Sprue Master, Freehand King, Detailing Professor and so on and on and on~~~~ We're not into the same cup of coffee but your works really amazed me QUITE A LOT!!!!! Touch ups on small things are very exact and clean~~~ The detailling balance makes your works very close to the real thing. And I agree with gio, that should looks incredible with naked eyes. Thank you very much for the impressive works! I real learnt so much from you!

Re: 406.60mph WIP

This just looks better and better Les.

It would be a shame to hid all the detail work you have been doing. Possibly look at making a few trestles to display the body next to the chassis?

Re: 406.60mph WIP

Great stuff, I just wish I could have seen this sooner. This car now sits in the NHRA museum in Pomona CA. I see it every year.

Here are a few pics I took of this fantastic machine. I hope you can use them.

Beautiful detailing by the way.

Mal
Malscar, I found an article which I thought was pretty interesting, and here is a quote from Jim Travis, the man who did the restoration of the Challenger.

"He wound that thing up tight in low gear, and when he shifted into second it may have gone in all four transmissions," Travis said. "But when he power-shifted into high gear one of the transmission levers didn't go into high gear, so the engine was in neutral. So when he gave it full throttle, that one engine just went up to about 8,000 rpm and exploded because it had no load on it. It was the left-front engine."

This dispels the story reported for decades that the second run ended as a result of a broken driveshaft.

A special thanks to everyone who remembers this build from when I left off and thanks to all the newer people that have found it since.
Auw, we might not be into the same coffee, but thats what makes it much more fun here.
Cheif-Thanks for the fantastic pics, they are and will be a big help as I'm working on the coolant and fuel lines right now. I really appreciate it, buddy!
Les

Re: 406.60mph WIP

I love the pic and subtle hint, Gio Update for you, notice my beautiful background.
Well, after a few nights of work I got the elbows for the coolant lines made out of spruce. And the lamp knocking out the engine was a blessing in disguise because it would have impossible to install these with the engine in place.

Unfortunately, all that work was just for the right side, now to start on to the left. You can see my lines are too bright and much too orange but they arent glued in so I might look for a more accurate brown wire to do the hoses. Actually they looked pretty good before I cleaned them and under normal room lighting.
Thanks for looking gang.
Les
