If you're familiar with history, as you claim to be - then you'd know how completely destroyed Japan was. The country couldn't even stand on it's own, to believe that such a helpless, crippled country was capable of any sort of success against an invasion is pure fantasy.
The bombs were used, because the government had already paid out the wazoo for them, and because it was the easiest way out, not because it was the smartest. It sent a clear message to even the most delusional of all the Japanese, but that doesn't mean it was justifiable to vaporize thousands of civillian women, children and men, scar and wound many hundreds of thousands more, and curse several generations with radiation related disease.
Of course, since we're the good guys, it doesn't matter how we won.

I know they were destroyed and had nothing left. This is what I'm trying to get through to you guys. They had NOTHING TO LOSE at this point in the war. If American would of invaded then it would of been nothing for a civilian to strap explosives to their chest and run at a platoon of American soldiers.
Why do you think the Japanease starting using kamakazi tactics? They had nothing to lose at his point and found killing one of their guys for 50 of ours was a fair trade off.
If America would of invaded they would of been facing a bunch of people with nothing to lose and throwing their lives at them.

this is going nowhere. we will never know for sure, but i am glad it ended. and i am glad we won. there's a lot of situations where a toot for a tooth can't be justified but on this one i'm inclined to think thats what happened, and fair enough. the japanese may not have nuked america but for the way they treated allied POW's i think they deserved to hurt a bit.

except in WW2 the japanese were definately aggressors. Iraq didn't attack the US. i guess wherever an invading army takes your country and your homes and kills your people you'll fight with everything you have.

also in response to the actions off WW2, where both sides began targeting civilians despite pre-existing "laws" regarding that sort of action, the geneva convention was drawn up to prevent "civilised" countries doing stuff like that. unfortunately it only took a few years to show it missed the mark as America was back firebombing civilians in North Korea just a few short years later. Sort of like Iraq.

You would think they had nothing left to fight for and no more will power to do it with. The leading Japanease ace for WW2 was in the area a very long time ago and my dad got to talk to him. Dad asked him why they kept on fighting the war. They knew they were defeated and knew there was no way they were going to win, it was over.
The guy asked my dad "If roles were reversed and Japan was on the verg of victory and America had no chance of winning, would you keep fighting?"
Some of us will say "I'd give up and surrender" but others, like my dad, would say that they'd keep fighting because they want to stand and fight for their country and the spirit that goes with it.

First , I don't like to post in the politics fourm but that thread is too
important to me ..

The ISLAM reality is not like that .. Some people use it as a badge and

a lot criticizes The Whole ISLAM . In ISLAM there are Shia and Sunnah ..

Shia follow very knowledge Man such as Sistani and

Fadlallah ......etc , Everyone follow who he likes while the Sunnah

everyone has a decision.. There are a lot

of Problem between those Groups .. ISAMA Bin Laden is From Sunnah

and they Hate Shia .. The Shia are not doing any actions While the

sunnah do actions that which called in News Terrorism ..

I am myself do not hate americans .. In fact Those who made 9/11

action made the reputation of islam too bad in U.S .. Until today there

the problem between Shia and Sunnah is on and that is a strong reason

of why arabs haven't developed .. finally I suggest to all , before you

talk about islam read about it ..

I don't want to make racialism between both groups but there is racialism in Saudi Arabia !

Here in Bahrain we don't make racialism between Shia and Sunnah ..
The schools are mixed by both but in Saudi arabia ,Shia in a school and Sunnah in another school .. Until today there are problems ..

The god told them to not eat from the specified tree but the satan debauched him . he ate from that tree and the god sent him to the earth ..
