i just realized (upon trying trillian to the same end as mirc) that i havent configured my firewall to allow these programs inet access...

http://chat.yahoo.com/ It works behind my Norton Firewall with out any tweaks, and I run quite a high security level (for some reason there are a lot of people on the net who don't like me). Its also totaly webbased, so should work on every ones comp, and for those on a fast enough conection, theres even a voice option.

offers irc webchat as well. No need to download mirc onto your comp, and no worries about firewalls etc. It all just runs in your browser. The only downside is you have to learn how to use irc.
