If there is a 1/18th scale version of the WEST Competition/Dave Price Racing #03R, I have never seen it. I know that there was a version of that particular car in 1/43rd scale that is somewhat rare and was produced as a promotional piece. Maybe that's the car you are thinking of.

I haven't really started down the slippery slope of collecting the 1/43rds yet as I simply couldn't afford to even make a decent collection of them. I have the silver and green F1 road cars in 1/43rd and someday I may add #01R but I think that will be it.

"When I saw that I actually emailed the seller to find out if he knows why the bidding is so high. It seems outrageous since that car normally sells for $50-75 USD."

Also odd that it is listed as a private auction: there are unscrupulous persons on eBay that list items for sale in such a way, and get their mates, (or even themselves), to drive the price, (artificially), upwards.

It is also interesting to note that one of the people this seller sold to recently is a Japanese person who is notorious for going to extraordinary lengths to outbid all other bidders: if i were an unscrupulous seller and knew my customer(s), i would probably be inclined to take steps to ensure that they paid as much as possible for an item, (see the above hypothesis for a possible explanation)...

If you look back through the sellers feedback ratings, you'll see that a "similar" model was purchased by him/her from, (i think Taiwan), at a fraction of the price.

Those are plausable scenarios, but in that case the stupid bidder deserves to pay a ridiculous amount. Right now, this very same diecast is available in a different auction with a "Buy it Now" price of $60. There's no reason for anyone to be bidding this up so high. Incidentally, I haven't seen a reply to my inquiry yet.

Agreed on your first point, and frankly i'm not surprised you've not had a reply to your e-mail; perhaps this scenario, (or one similar), is plausable...

I love a good conspiracy, as long as i'm not a victim of it!

Well he replied - and seems almost as shocked as we are:

Quote:
Hello,

I have no idea. The only thing I can think of and has been said is that all
my cars are immaculate and packaged really well.

The guy thats winning this auction has won another auction and he would
rather buy the cars in the UK rather than overseas too.

I'm not complaining though...obviously.

Thanks
Chris
Strange though - very, very strange....

Strange is not the word for it, suspicious i would say; it's now gone to £430.00. There's another one on there at the moment for exactly £400.00 less, in the UK.

If there was a bidding war on for this particular model, (and i don't care what the seller says, it would have to be solid gold, diamond encrusted and signed by Gordon Murray with an Armani trimmed interior to be worth that, not "immaculate and packaged really well"), wouldn't you pull out and save yourself £400?

Sorry, it stinks...

Re: 1:12 McLaren F1 :FOR SALE!!!!!!

Hey, I have a UT 1:12th scale McClaren F1 with the original box. It has always been in a covered case. It is a stunning model in dark metallic green. When I purchased this model I was told that many of the original models were damaged!! because some of the parts were a problem. The door hinges are very delicate and they were the most common problem. No problem with mine. I am interested in selling my copy and would be happy with a fair price based on the information in the above thread. Make an offer, and thank you. Gonegray
