They told me that no damage is currently happening to the transmission and they would be more than happy to fix the problem if it starts happening more. They suggested I drive it until the problem gets worse...

I find it hard to believe that the loud clunking sound I sometimes get when the transmission engages isn't causing any damage. It certainly sounds bad enough...
I would think they could look back with their scan tool, at the datastream, if anything went funky it should be there in the history/pending codes/datastream freezeframes.

Re: 2006 Impala SS Transmision FAILED!

I feel your pain. I have an '08 SS and today out of the blue without warning it was like the transmission didn't exist. Would not move no matter the gear selection. Killed the engine, restarted it 2 minutes later and was a able to move 30' before the tranny went MIA again, had to get it home doing this for 5 miles. Any suggestions?

Investigate to see if the transmission selector switch or the connector is loose, damaged or corroded. Have had some cars do this and it was a bad switch position sensor.

Funny you mention that, I told my wife too bad I couldn't check the linkage on it since their electrical instead of mechanical now. I'm too old school for my own good, give me a '70s Hot Rod anyday! I will check on the connector after work today, thanks for the guidance.

Re: 2006 Impala SS Transmision FAILED!

your issue is very common when these GM transmissions are flushed !!!!!!!!!

now my question is what fluid did they use III or VI DEXRON ???????????

Who did this flush ? was pan removed ? filter replaced ?

If this flushing was not done properly I would sue the repair shop that did this damage to your transmission.
