Like the dirt on the 206? An experiment to try out MIG pigments and the way they work. Not that far off. Rallycars are sometimes hosed down by the team after a stage. The dirt accumulated could be from the transport stage to the startline :-) I wasn't mentally prepared to ruin a nice paintwork with a lot of dirt... If dilluted in water the dirt works just like real dirt! So it can actually be washed off...

Boy yeah! Please stop that and let Guy show more modeling!

As for the matching of decals and painted areas i agree with you Guy. I'll do the same.
When i checked the real MP4/4 and others at Goodwood for colour i found out that there's in fact a little difference between the painted areas and the number stickers. You have to get very close though to actually see it. On some cars it was correct though so it's your choice!

Guys, please let we see the progress from Guy only...

I found this thread today and i'm in love with it... i would not like to see it stoped or ruined with "minors" conversation.

Please Guy, continue with your fantastic work.

Thanks

Nice build, great painting. Your goal of doing 12 models (also quite detailed already, for me) a year is very impressive, I can't even do that myself. Will be back to see this one done!!

Actually no, I like the subtle approach very much, rallycars don't always have to be filthy. I was more thinking of stuff like the 19" tarmac wheels and wrong number on the Burns/Reid 1999 Rally Argentina Impreza and the OOB Tamiya 206WRC Evo 3 faults left uncorrected.

Anyway, enough of this OT stuff. Lets sit back and hope Guy is kind enough to keep updating this progress thread.

Guy,

nice updates and a great looking finish, your masking is really neat and tidy too. As for the body colour - I agree 100%, TS36 is a far too deep red for the earlier Mclarens - if anyone has seen a real M23 next to one of Senna's 80s cars for isntance you will see a massive difference in the colour.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

I have just noticed a few people mentioning the comments of others in this thread and so I read over it again and to be honest Im staggered.
What on earth is going on, I come to this forum to see other peoples work & learn from them to help my modeling and in turn I post my WIPs in order to try and help others, but most of all, & MOST OF ALL the last thing I want to do is start reading such comments about the standard or accuracy. Personally if I post comments they are always positive PERIOD, I dont think there is a single modeler on here who has the right to critic anyone's thread in such a way.
This happened over at F1m recently and according to the mods they lost alot of readers as a result, I wouldnt blame Guy for not bothering posting his WIPs anymore, all I can say to Guy is ignore it and listen to the rest of us.
I also think it is rude to say the least to post a collection of your own models on someone else's thread. Either these guys have some sort of personal problem with you Guy or I am completely missing the point here!

Rant over!

And you do the same - and so it carries on... Read what the moderator wrote.

Actually it was the moderator that wanted proof that I actually had made a model...;-) My reply has been deleted. Someone elses reply I can't remove.

Anyway - the party is over on that issue - so follow the moderator. Over to Guy.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

Come on guys I'm sure we are all really coming from the same point of view here, just with our wires crossed thanks to internet communication issues. So lets give each other the benefit of the doubt and not fan the flames.
On the positive side, by continually bumping Guy's thread more people may see it and be inspired.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

After a long time, finally a new update. I have been busy fixing the gold colored striping, and that is finally finished now. Before I move on to fixing the other sponsor decals I thought I'd show you the pics of the car first.

Also note the pretty good match between the sprayed orange of the body and the orange decals of the airbox. I'm pretty pleased with the result, and as you all know by now, this was the whole idea (as opposed to get a perfect match with the real car). On top of that you have to keep in mind that the model will be showed with all the bodyparts detached (like in the last picture).

Questions and/or comments? Shoot

Great job, as usual.

I obligated myself to stay away from this thread for a whyle due the respect I have for Guy, I have only to say that I unlike those mess. There's a great topic started from MPWR where we'll discuss of those issues leaving top-threads clean.
