Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

Yes these forums can be very helpful and thats what we are here for. With your radio take the harness you bought and wire it to the harness on the back of your cd player, the wires should be the same colors so just match them and wire them. once the 2 wire harnesses are wired together plug the cd player into the stock plug that is already in your car and you should be good to go.
Oh also i'm guessing you bought a mounting bracket so that you can mount it into the dash right?
and what year is your car? do you have anything done to it?

I see that you are online and I have a question. My rear speakers do not work. It looks to me like the wires need to be moved to the upper row of the harness from the factory. If so how do I move them. There are 5 wires. I am assuming the green/white wire is a ground as it is set apart from the others. I have a '96 cav.

Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

so the rear speakers arent working after you hooked up the wire harness??

I'm not sure which color is the ground, but are when you wired all the wires together did you make sure they were connected good and matching to the right color? no wires on either harness needs to be moved all you have to do is match the colors and wire them.

Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

It is wired correctly and the joints are tight. I havent' had a chance yet but I am going to check for continuity on the wires. Still looks like they are not connecting at the connector.

Question Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

All the connections are tight. This is the first thing I have ever did to my car. Maybe the last? I have my wiring diagram for my car and it looks like the wires are not the same as the harness. In other words. My black on white should go to the dark green if that makes any sense. Anyway I am going to try that when the rain and my rage stops.

Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

I guess I could just use the front speakers. I need to get it back together to use my car again. Any suggestions besides going to a shop? I hate to give up....

Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

Hmm im surprised your having such a hard time with this.

the harness you bought is that for gm cars for your year?
If you bought the correct harness then it should just go color to color, thats how its been on all my cars when I put in radios.

Re: radio wiring on 96 cavalier

Yes it says it is the right one. I am surprised at this turn of events. My radio must have been installed on a Friday. Any suggestions? Really I am wondering if I ever had use of my rear speakers. I am sure I did though.

Well if you have a wire diagram then just look at that and match the which wire is suppose to go to it.
