I know that, just wishing one that I can afford. I also notice a lot of cool cars are now being built by model company as diecast or resin...sobs....hate diecast, they bored me to death. Diecast only looks appealing in the shops but after you bought it, open it and look at it....thats it! The excitement simply ends there. Resin...no money..too expensive for me.

Plastics kits its a gift from GOD! you get it from the shop, you put it in your cabinet or secret vault, then when you have the mood to do it sometimes you just glance over the box...it still have the magic since the day you bought it from the shop. The beauty of unmade kits is one of a kind, let alone building it, finding references, going to AF forums,....its another magic in the making!

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Here is the link to the English Tamiya site announcement:

http://tamiya.com/english/products/2...aren/index.htm

.... and by the sounds of it, it will be a detail kit similar to the Enzo and Carrera GT saying....

"Coming Soon as a 1/24 assembly model that is perfect for displaying alongside Tamiya's 1/24 scale Porsche Carrera GT and Enzo Ferrari to showcase a fantastic lineup of 3 of the top premium supercars in the world"

Adam.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

http://tamiya.com/japan/news/news0608/news2.htm#24290
Opening doors, opening hood & 5.5liter V8 engine details, diecast chassis, shipping date: Aug.23, price: 4200 yen !!! (4000 + tax)

Amazon offers 20% off in Japan, reducing the price to 3400 yen, and others will probably discount it as much as 30% (making it 2940 yen) but still...!
Is that the price range we should expect for a full detail kit from now on???

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Maybe I missed the discussion, but why is Tamiya doing diecast chassis? Is it to make the model heavier and more substantial.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Well,

Hugely disappointed to be told die cast chassis crap again from Tamiya, however quick Google image search, and looking at the real chassis, it is mostly a flat slab anyhow. Rear de-fusser, be interesting to see how they deal with the front if it’s to have a full engine. I knew they’d go with the opening door.

Quite a price for a plastic kit though. £20, from Japan is quite hefty, but I can deal with that.

Tamiya are using die cast to increase weight, and make the model more life like, or so they keep telling us. It’s actally a pile of shit, and its so they can build pre builts, and screw the damn thing to a display case and ship it… Or, this was what I was told, but then I was also told Tamiya are actually a secret lover of die cast, and want to own the die cast world..

Nah, not really… I’ve got no idea, plenty of threads on it, so if you search you’ll see the comments…

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Well, the problem isn't diecast chassis, but the lack of details. Gunze's 250GTO has a cast metal chassis, but nobody cares, because it's not sacrificing details.

When Tamiya picked the material, they could have maintained the level of detail, but they didn't, especially with the 307 kit. That set this negative assumption that all diecast chassis are bad.

Since the bottom of the SLR is mainly flat, the question is how Tamiya did the engine frame and suspension details. If the engine turns out to be like the one in the CLK DTM kit, that'll really suck.

Having said that, though, I've been waiting for a kit of the SLR, so it's soooooooooooo much better than no kit at all.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

I thought that most companies molded in metal as it allows for more intricate details, so why doesn't Tamiya take advantage of this and put more details into it.

i really agree with you.if detailed,realism,die-cast thing,whatever...that's OK i think.but tamiya makes a MODEL like children toys.what ever beautiful bodies goes shit because of the die-cast under board.i hope we can invite some tamiya leader and ask them WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?

Good idea. Does AF have any sort of IRC channel? Igor should have enough clout for us to be able to arrange such a thing. I think that's a magnificent idea! Too good to just mention in passing.
