I too wasn't sure. In fact a few on here instilled doubt after I'd applied them. I was to begin with really happy, as I felt it looked good, and then a few mentioned it didn't look real. But I still like them...

I did take the time to learn how to heat stain with my airbrush, but it's a PITA to do this. These decals were easy, and did the job. I got three different types. I've got a purple ish sheet. That I think will look good on an M1 bike..

This one is now pretty much completed. I just need to finish up polishing the body cowls and attach, and that is it. I’m absolutely livid with the rear muffler exhaust decals. I laid them down perfectly smooth, and allowed to dry, like I normally do, and then applied a bit of micro sol to the edges to make them conform around the exhaust clamp, and then shrunk, and creased beyond repair I feel. I’d tested these decals BEFORE I did this, as I’d used sol on all the others, and this didn’t happen. It has ruined the look a little, and I’m, well pretty hacked off.

I’m going to try a hot towel pressed on them in a bit, but this is just typical. I honestly didn’t expect that. If I’d not glued the exhaust in with plastic cement, I’d have removed, and redone with SMS CF, but I sanded the paint off, and carefully cemented in using Tamiya cement, as it was heavy and I didn’t trust CA glue. Great..!!

Anyhow, apart from that, I think the build is “fairly” error free. Such a shame. I’m wondering if I could pass it off as wear and tear. As the bike is being portrayed as having a good thrashing anyhow… Nope..?? Shaking my head in shame..

Right, WIP nearly completed. I’ve polished up the fuel tank; the Mr Hobby Clear Coat is stunning. It dried in days, and is really hard. Takes to Tamiya compounds really well, but there was hardly any orange peel to polish out to start with. I only gave it a rub with Tamiya Fine, and it buffed up beautiful. Waxed with Tamiya wax, looked at the white, and realised there was a red speck of paint just next to the rear seat, but it’s never gonna be noticed, and sat back and admired my work….

I can’t bear to put the side cowls on. And I’m also working to get these creases out of the decal near the exhaust clamp. Hot towel got a few out, still a few to go yet… I applied another coat of micro sol, and it does seem to be helping. I’m not putting the side cowls on until my mate who owns a real R1 (although a 2003 /4 model) has seen this for real, as I want his opinion. But overall, anyone who likes road superbikes, simply buy this kit. It’s outstanding. Really good fitment, but watch the front radiator. I had to heat form the tubes that make up the piping, otherwise the tubing pushes the radiator outwards, and it looks a little crooked. A hair dryer soon takes care of that though.

Guest appearance of my dog, she was guarding, to ensure no one stole my superbike, and also proves I’m not taking pictures of a real R1.. LOL
