Re: Home made SMIM

I think that the bolt flanges could use a little bit more surface area so the clamping pressure applied to gaskets would be a little more spread out. If you ground those welds down and did a little polishing on them I would say it looks damn good.

Re: Home made SMIM

I think he understands that the cosmetics of the manifold can be improved, But as he said, this is his test one, so he just wanted to see if it could actually be done and if it holds pressure, you guys know if he was selling it, he would take more time making it look good. He is going to finish it up some time today or tomomrow I think.

For the person that asked for pics of the progress, do you mean the build or performance progress. Can DSMlink determine the flow of the manifold or no?

Re: Home made SMIM

I just finished the manifold, every time i turned around i found something else i needed to do. Right now the last coat of paint is drying. I should have it on the car tomorrow. I tried to find a machine shop that could flow bench it but none around here could do it. I was pissed i called like 20 different shops they all kept saying to call aother place then that place gave me another i thought my head was gonna explode!!

Re: Home made SMIM

man you REALLY should find someone with dsmlink in your area and log airflow right before you install it. then throw it on and log again without changing anything else, that's the proof we would need.

Re: Home made SMIM

I have dsmlink...I don't have any good logs from before i took my old im off. Maybe tis weekend i'll swap em, i was thinking of taking the im off and repainting it. byw i don't have any logs after my fmic install, mostly because i had a boost leak at the throttle body. (i'm a dumbass and stripped a bolt)

Re: Home made SMIM

Meh, you'll get it, you just had to much shit going on today, plus you were really close to finishing the project, probobly rushed a tad bit, but who can blame you? you'll get it running tomorow, but it's going to be shitty out, I guess it's supposed to rain.

Re: Home made SMIM

I don't really think I can make many o these in a reasonable amount of time. I'm still working on my cause the flange to the head was warped, so i bought a table top belt sander and am in the process of smoothing it out. When I'm done I'll do a write-up, if any really can't do it by themselves or if they lack a welder, I'm still willing to make one or two...

Re: Home made SMIM

I might still do it, if i buy a drill press (only like $80) It should be a lot easier. I was kind of pissed off last night. I think a lot of people don't have the tools to do this. An acetelyne torch would help but it would be like $500 for a good set-up. So you guys could donate for a good cause...

Re: Home made SMIM

You're a pimp for doing this. You'd be the pimp 4L if you could quantify the change.

But since you're pimping, you should pimp our cars too, lol.
