Homemade : I cut some needles in small parts.

New update :

I scratchbuilt all the missing kit cockpit parts. I indicated them on the left pic with the red arrows. Now all I gotta do is paint the parts as thorough as possible, and fit them on their exact places so hopefully I will become a cockpit that comes close to the real thing.

Until the next update!

PS : you can have a look at the complete picture building report here (as always) :

New update :

In the meantime I painted and/or sprayed all the parts that will be fitted in the cockpit (pilot inclusive). A lot of details are still missing, and the Senna decals are missing as well. But its gives you an idea :

Until the next update!

Another update :

All pilot and cockpit parts have been painted, fitted and weathered, except the Senna helmet. That was clearcoated twice after fitting the decals and is drying right now. It'll probably get a third topcoat. Then I'll have to paint the face and the rubber protection strips, and I'll have to fit the visor. So Senna will have to drive on headless for a while longer.

At this point this is rather interesting, because now you're able to see the dashboard from the driver's viewpoint...

I have to admit that I enlighted the pictures on purpose, so you are able to see the dashboard details better. On the other hand, you almost can't see anymore how I painted the lower racesuit-parts with a darker color, and the higher parts with a lighter color...

I also had to sharpen the pics extra to show the details, but that means you'll notice any irregularity a lot better as well, making it look a lot worse than in reality...

Please take that in account when you look at the pics and when you write your comments

Until the next update!

Looking great! I really like how you painted the drivier's gloves' palms. Those small details really enhance the build. Nice work, really.

I posted in this thread before, but again, I need to say that I´m deeply impressed.

One question: You´re not going to leave the end of the seat belt (around the shoulder) as they are right now? They will be connected to the chassis right? (Of course, they will be! - so maybe just a stupid question!)

Some are saying you make them want to build more. Me, I just want to go and cry, knowing I could never be so good.

Naah, seriously, you got it right there : the cowling is cast to the body (it's resin after all) so I will have to attach the seat belt ends to that part, and wait to attach them through the seat belt buckles, to the driver, AFTER I fit the cowling to the chassis. It will be tricky, but I think I found a solution... Pics will make it all a lot more clear.

Yet another update :

"What's Sennake been up to in the meantime?", you may wonder...

Well, I finished the body by painting the inside black where nessecairy, and by using CF-decals and/or bare metal foil where needed. I also finally fitted the rollbar I scratched at the very beginning of this thread :

Both rear wings got their decals fitted on and I put 2 layers of clearcoat over them :

The Senna-figure was finished as well, by completing the helmet. The decals were fitted, and then I triple clearcoated it. Next I painted the face, the balaclava, the helmet interior and the rubber visor protection strip - so from the inside outwards. And yes, the protection strip really was white and not black, as can be seen at the reference pic :

The engine was fitted to its final position, so I was able to fix the engine supports as well. The left support has been coated with heat-reflecting foil, just like the real one, and the suspension arm closest to the hot exhaust got the same treatment, just like his 1/1 example. I also scratched a second heat shield between the engine and the exhaust. To the right side 2 wires go through the red wire-protection-cable that is fixed to the right support arm. Once they reach the base plate they run through the "black box" that I'm still working on :

Incidently, that box isn't black but metalcolor. I sprayed it in TS-30, together with 2 colling hoses. Those parts still need detail painting, as you can see :

The remaining white metal parts forming the front suspension were cleaned up and polished, ready to be primed :

Finally the suspension arms which have a too large diameter were replaced by steel wire with the correct diameter. I have 2 reasons to do this : first it's a fare quicker way to replace them compared to filing or sanding off the white metal parts, and second : steel wire is a lot stronger than white metal, preventing it from bending or deforming by uncareful handling. At the pics the replaced parts were indicated with the red arrows :

Until the next update!
