Re: WIP: Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 550 Maranello

this is really impressive. your skills and patience are amazing and just taking the time to correct the little things that most people might skip is really turning this into a beautiful build. that shine is the cat's pajamas! keep up the great work.

Re: WIP: Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 550 Maranello

It's been a while since the last update, but I have a valid excuse. Here is what's been taking so long--the seats!

The kit seats don't look very good, and the ones in diecasts don't satisfy me, so I decided to make my own.

Pictures are self-explanatory, so I avoid lengthy descriptions, but basically I used styrene sheet (white), Tamiya epoxy putty (yellow) and Bondo automotive body filler (pink).

The head rests were made from styrene sheet and polyester putty. The prancing horse was made by using my favorite technique--foil casting.

I still need to add power switches and other small details, but that shouldn't take weeks! I hope I can get the interior done soon.

Very nice!

Though, I'm not quite following how you made the seat cushion pattern...?

Re: WIP: Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 550 Maranello

i was wondering that too.
did you make a pattern on each seat using strips of styrene (and then fill+sand) or did you make a negative to 'cast' the pattern onto the putty?

Re: WIP: Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 550 Maranello

The center pattern was made from styrene strips, no reverse casting or any kind of fancy trick was used. I firmly glued styrene strips a thin styrene sheet. After glue was completely dry, I used files of various corss sections (mainly hemisphere and oval) to round the edges. Then, I slightly melted the patterned surface with liquid glue to blend the added pieces with the backing styrene sheet.

The back part looked too flat, so I glued a piece of thin styrene, filed the shaded areas, then sanded the surface to make a gentle curve. After that, I added various detail pieces made with styrene, and finally glued thin wires to simulate the pipes.

Here is a picture of the finished seats.

Finally, the seats are done! And just as I thought that the interior modifications were all done, I realized that I've completely forgotten about the door panels.
Damn you, Fujimi!
