Re: Why Are Import Racers Cocky
i know mustangs can handle around turns i know some ppl with bad ass mustangs but i really should have said tight turns cause thats when they cant keep up do to the fact that i can hold the gas to the point were my wheels are spinning and im still going around and last time my friend hit the gas alittle he did 2 360's and almost ruined his car. To answer the forum subjet is that the cocky import guys are mostly(not all)have not been in a fast car so when they get 50 or 75 more hp they think there car is the shit, but you cant tell me that is not the same way for everyone who has never been in all types of cars, al least i can say that the fastest cars iv been in is my friends supercharged LT4 vette, and my friends 450 hp WRX and there about even. So lets just say neither import or muscle sucks, only the cocky ppl driving.

We keep changing the tread here...Now were discussing cornering ability..Its like comparing apples to atom bombs...A 4500 pound RWD should corner worse than a 2500 pound FWD. You can break alot of laws in a car just not the laws of physics!
Maybe we should start disscussing sway bars.....

Re: Why Are Import Racers Cocky
Wow this thread went from asking why import guys can be cocky. to power to weight ratios, to cornering. Import guys are just as cocky as domestic guys. It doesnt matter what you drive its all in the driver, mustang, honda whatever its all in the driver. Your also comparing a 300 horse v8 to a 175 horse 4 banger. You can have a 1200 horse v-8,v-10 whatever and a little 500 horse honda with a turbo can still smoke it. Thats why a k series swap in a hatchback with some serious motor mods could smoke an enzo.
Im not gonna bash domestic or import drivers cause i happen to drive both a 93 civic hatch with a b-16 swap and a 89 s10 blazer with a 4.3 with lots of aftermarket shit. It doesnt matter what they drive its the driver.

Cant remember who posted it but if you see it give yourself credit Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. Cardomain |

I dont know a lot of people seem to be cocky. I am more of a truck fan but I do like my F-Bodies and older stangs. Also the most cocky people seem to be the ones with stock or basic exhaust and intakes WRXs(not STis) that is strictly a certain bunch in my area. The worst are the people who say autos suck for drag racing. But in reality they can be just as good as any manual car if not a little bit better. My friends 99 SS Camaro. It is a little modified nothing crazy.
Engine: SLP Intake Lid,Smoothbellow,LoudMouth Exhaust. Tranny(Auto[4l60e found in trucks with 4.8L, 5.3, and 6.0L gas engines]): Tranny cooler, springs, servos, shiftkit, boostvalve. Rearend:3.73. Suspension: Air Lift Adjustable Drag Bags. Polyurathane Bushings all around Re-enforced rear upper control arms The other day we raced a GTI with decent work done to it. We did three beeps on the highway rolling from 75 he stayed with us pretty much all three runs but we won because he hit 5th and ran out after his over drive kicked in. In his car he can get to 130 in drive then shift into OD and have a lot more to go. The FWD/AWD turbo cars that are manual it is rare to see an auto import with an auto. But my point is they generally have to wait for boost and once they do they can be walked up on by a V-8 auto because of the torque and just run out of gearing. I am excluding cars with Nitrous. Also I believe in supercharging more because the power is right there and you generally don't need to wait for boost to build up. I am talking gas engines not diesel. Okay I am done.

Re: Why Are Import Racers Cocky
Just yesterday I stopped on this remote road off the highway at a 4 way intersection stop sigh, whatever. I'd taken the MR2 out instead of the Stealth, (which for some reason STILL invokes random revs every now and then) and these kids pull up facing me at the stop sign in some old tercel, looked like a late 80s model to me and theres like 3 14 year old looking kids in the car who are all laughing n shit. I didn't think anything of it and jumped on the highway. I accelerated quick to get on, (because it alwasy makes me smile when I can get up to 60 in seemingly the first like 20 feet of onramp. *Heart* power) which is apparently the "race" or "I'm better than you" signal for any high school FATF wannabes. Because I'm driving down the highway, not speeding cuz as I've said before, can't afford any more tickets. When this big gray and rust colored pile comes FLYING by me, doing at least 90, with a fart can on the back, And they honk and rev as they pass. Then I see all 3 sets of eyes looking at me and it took me n my friend a second to realize they were the same kids we'd just seen. They didn't even really wanna race as much as they wanted to go flying by me doing 90 because apparently their car is better.
I was so proud of myself too. When I was younger (and cockier) I would have gunned it up there to show htem whos boss!! I got off at my exit, the next one and got behind a state trooper, who promptly did a donught in the road (i though i was fucked @first) turned around, and got on the highway. I hope and pray they got a speeding ticket. In my head, they did That's the kind of thing I've seen everywhere. That whole raging hormone testosterone "alpha" kind of thing with the cocky kids who slap on wings and halos and paint their accents white with "that shit they found under the sink that dad used to touch up the walls" and that kind of thing, drive their cars at redline everywhere because hey, why not? they didn't pay for them! OK, I'm stereotyping. But generally, around here. There's a lot of that. I concur. And all I have to say is that it's the same high school mentality as high school itself. Raging hormones and the invincability syndrome.

Re: Why Are Import Racers Cocky
Damn, this is a lot of posts. I didn't read them all, but I read all that were formatted well, and didn't start with a misspelled word. I don't especially care what those individuals have to say. If one cannot turn a thought into words, then what they have to say must be pretty dumb as well.
Those of you who said "because it's their first car", you hit the nail on the head. However, I have one thing to add. Since it's their first car, they have never driven anything faster. I believe many of them may actually think that their car is very fast. I have heard many ricers in stock civics, after losing a race, say "He must have sprayed!" Oh, wait, it wasn't stock, I must just be retarded. It's got "hella modz" on it. It's got a 2' high rear spoiler, 200 lbs of audio equipment, a PS2 w/ LCD monitor in the trunk, a paint job that probably cost more than the car was new, 18" wheels, 3" lowering kit on it, and of course NOS stickers on every piece of glass. They spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for an "awesome" car that can beat most of the super-economy cars. Metros, Aspires, Prius', etc. Are they pissed off? I sure as hell would be. Every "mod" they did slows the car down considerably. My truck handles the same with 40 gallons of gas in it as it does near empty. Fill up a ricer with whatever it holds, and it will be noticably slower. I know, I used to have a tercel. I hated that piece of shit. So this ricer that spent more of body/sound than on the car, just lost tons of speed with everything he put in it. Some people mentioned horsepower being the biggest part of power. At least that is how I read it. This is mostly unrelated to this thread, but I guarantee you'll get a good laugh out of it. I was talking to a ricer at the autoparts store (guess what exhaust accessory he was buying?) when I was picking up some oil. I made the mistake of saying (quite sarcastically) "Wow, your car sure looks fast" when I saw his POS. He took it as a compliment. Not sure whether he picked up on the sacrasm, or even knew what it was. He got to talking about how fast his car is, and he doesn't know why they don't put 1.8L DOHC engines in full size trucks "because they'd be able to pull so much more!" I explained about torque and horsepower, and he didn't get it. I said farewell, and turned to get in my truck. He says "Wait!", and I turned around. He wanted to prove me wrong about my "theory" reguarding torque. We hooked one of my recovery straps between my truck and his car. I told him hit the gas whenever he was ready, with my foot on the brake just enough to keep from rolling forward, he started out and just sat there spinning the tires. He then realized FWD cars shift their weight to the back when accelerating. That was why he couldn't beat me. So he turned his car around, and hooked on to the subframe. We went once more, this time he didn't spin the tires because I had a 9" drop hitch on at the time, so it pulled the front of his car down a bit.. I dragged the car about 5 feet (barely off idle), just enough to let him realize he had lost. He got out and started yelling "I didn't have enough time for the v-tech to kick in". So once more we pull. He told me not to quit unless he honked the horn. Turned out the horn didn't work, and I got half way home... nah, J/K, but that would have been funnier . So we pull again, "BUUUUUUUUUZZ" followed again by "bmbmbmbmbm". This time I dragged him at least 20 feet. All of a sudden I heard a loud snaping/banging sound, then a very loud ticking/pounding noise, then HONK, HONK, HOOOOONK.He jumped out of his car, which now had smoke (maybe steam, but I prefer to think smoke) rolling out from under the hood. I said "Well, at least you're at the right place. Maybe you can exchange that fart can for whatever broke." He just stood there in disbelief that he didn't win. After all, he had more horsepower than me. He was yelling incoherent sentence fragments and walking in circles waving his arms around. I couldn't help but laugh. That upset him even more, and he threatened "I'll kick yur azz ya punk-azz be-yatch!!!" Not seeing him or me, that may not sound as funny as it was. He was 5'10" at most, and maybe 140 lbs. I was 6'3" and 290 lbs., much of that upper body strength (with six-pack abs, hiding behind my pony keg )I took off my hat and put out my cigarette. He took out his cell phone and said "Thaz it, I'm callin' up mih boyz!" Not knowing how many "boyz" he gots or what weapons they'd bring, I went home and changed the oil. Sorry, that was long, and a bit off topic... but it explains a bit about ricers, at least to me.

Re: Why Are Import Racers Cocky
nothin to be sorry about, we have one of the few 50/50 weight ratio cars in the world. plus one of the lightest, and easiest to get more hp out of.
