Re: how good is the s10

Im sure every truck/car has it's problems but I SWEAR BY THIS TRUCK.
I Bought my 1995 S-10 2 Wheel Drive 2.2L for $6000 Canadian (app. $4500 USD). I didn't know what i was getting into but I've always like their appearance. Since I bought it in 1997 with 21 000 kms (13 000 miles) I have had to replace/fix:
1 Clutch Plate (after 200 000kms / 137 000 miles)
2 Head Lamps
1 Set of Whiper Blades
1 Muffler
1 Fuel Pump (gf ran the tank dry...go figure!)
1 Heater Motor
I have 256 000 kms (160 000 miles) on it and it runs like it did the day I got it minus a MINOR tick in the motor. Where I live it goes down to -35 C (-30 F ?) regularly in the winter and I never and I mean NEVER plug it in...and it starts every time.
ID BUY AGAIN NO HESITATION...AND ITS A DECENT LOOKING TRUCK...WITH A ROLL PAN BUMPER OF COARSE!

Re: how good is the s10

how old is the kid buying the truck? if this is your first, get a 2.2 5speed. easy to drive, reliable, and good on gas. its not the fastest thing in the world but its not a go cart either.

Re: how good is the s10

i agree with hakogen, the 2.2 is good on gas. The 2.2 is quite a bit cheaper on insurance (depending on MVR, of course), but they really are reliable. I haven't had any mechanical problems, get a extended cab though, thats the one thing i don't like about my s-10.

Re: how good is the s10

Yip, you just have to realise that when getting a 2.2L, you will be considerably underpowered and for god sakes don't get an auto.

Re: how good is the s10

I have a 2000 2.2 5 speed. The gas milage is about the same as a v6. I get 17-21 mpg. Mine could get worse mileage because its a flex fuel. I dont know. You have to floor it just about if you want any kind of acceleration! I just know i made a big mistake when i got the 2.2. Especially the flex fuel!!! The parts on it are way to expensive to replace. My fuel filter was somewhere around $150. Everything seems to be 3 times as expensive as a regular 2.2. If anyone wants to buy mine im selling it for $4900.

Re: Re: how good is the s10

Get the s10. toyota should have never produced trucks. A monkey could build a better truck than toyota ever has. They are so hard to work on its pathedic. Changing your oil on a 4.3 s 10 is a breeze you will enjoy it. however you will never want to change your oil when you see how those toyota trucks are. Youll enjoy the s10 more. there are endless upgrades to satisfy your every desire. The toyota good luck finding your airfliters. Plus parts are going to be alot more expensive for the yota that is if you are able to locate them.

unless you have a parent that drove a stick as you were a kid, or you did some dirt track racing, get an auto, if your a new driver of corse, but not in the 2.2, the 4.3... with an auto transmission you have less to worrie about, you push the gas to go and the break to stop, with a stick, you have another peddle and a gear box, for a new driver, i feel safer if you have one to go one to stop, i love my stick, but im glad i learnd on an automatic vehical
