Re: Opel (Vauxall) Kadett V8 GTR 1:10 scratch build

Hi all, time for the next update.

I have been busy with the front section of the body, lots of pictures so lets start.

The width of the body is created with large fenders on each side.
I made a cardbord template because they are not only round but also angled down from body side to the outside.

Closed the outside also.....

From styrene 0,3 and 0,5 thickness cut some strips which i can put around the template.

First the 0,3 mm part taped on the template:

The outside covered with glue and put the 0,5mm part over it hold in place with yellow tape.

After the glue was dry this is wat it looks now.
The extended part sytrene on the right/above side from the pecil line is necessary to make the fender fit to the round side of the body.

This was part 1 of the fenders now they will need to be installed.

For that i took a A4 paper sheet and put all the measurements from the car on it.
The width of the total body including fenders at the front will be 198 mm.
I taped the fenders on the paper at the correct size.

The next photo shows how much wider the body will be compared to the original vauxall body.

To make the fenders fit to the body i used a dremel and sandpaper on a spraycan to make the round opening.

Test fit on the fenders:

With super glue and flower i glued the fenders to the body

underside:

The "to much material" cut away with a small saw:

After this i removed the grill from the body and made a new edge on the bottom from styrene.

Last part, the fenders also needed an edge/strip on the outer side, cut with a circle cutter...

Next update i will continue with the grill..

Re: Opel (Vauxall) Kadett V8 GTR 1:10 scratch build

Next update continuing on the last one.....

I made a new horizontal part for the bottom edge from the grill ...

On the next picture i also glued the undersection from the bumpoer back into its position and started to make the bottom left and right edges round again...

To continue now with this front section the hood needs to be taken of.
To ensure the whole part will be strong enough after removal of the hood i glued an extra strip along the window side.

The hood is then marked nicely parallel with yellow tape.

The edge from the fender will need to have a clean cut and the hood part which will be removed is gonna be replaced by a new part from styrene.
For that i put also yellow tape over the fenders along the line from the hood.

And removed the tape from the hood...

Also the section which will be in front of the windscreen is taped off, this part will only be an example for me to make a new item from styrene also.

With a small circular saw in my Dremel i cut out the hood...

Two 0,5mm strips were then glued inside against the top edge of the fenders.

From several pieces 0,3 - 0,5mm styrene sheet i made a new internal front plate and glued it in place.

Alos along both sides of the fenders two small horizontal strips were glued to support the new hood.

This car doesn't have real lights at the front because they woukld be to heavy, instead of them they made carbon fibre copies which are mounted against a carbon plate, part of the new front, see below the example.

These parts made from 0,5 mm styrene sheet..

And a square strip at the back to support the part, also by the real car.

When scratching your own model sometime things aren't always going the way you want.
Also in this case because after test fitting the front of the car on the chassi i found that the edge, which will be in front of the windscreen, doesn't fit that good anymore.
There's an opoen gap from 8mm and thats to much so i will have to modify somthing, in this case the front of the chassis.

To finf out how much to remove i cut away the bottom part from the body frontsection.

The next picture shows the "to much" part from the chassis which will be need to cut off.

Now i could go further with the front section.

To prevent dirt of coming in into the engine bay there are carbon fiber inserts which will run along the edge of the chassis, made from 1,5mm square staff and 0,3mm sheet.

The 1:1

To fit this front onto the chassis some pins are in place which will slide in the front of the chassis beams.

I made them from 1mm alu tube.

Last part of this update will be the front bumper/spoiler.
It exists out of a big carbon plate at the bottom (wind splitter) with a slightly thicker part in the middle.

I have good pictures from this piece so i made a drawing of it with all the neccesary dimensions.

Large plate from 0,5 mm sheet and the thicker part from 1mm sheet.

From several other pictures i made a template/drawing from the edge were the bumper goes up.

The lower edge from the bumper is straight up, so i made a strip from o,5mm sheet and glued it in place along the 1mm square strip in the splitter.

The oval middle support is made from a 10mm styrene tube pushed oval.

Onto the middle part comes a horizontal section made from 0,3mm sheet and 2mm square staff.

Next picture shows middle opart in place and i'm busy with determing the angle from the bumper to the nose of the car.

And started to mould it..

Till so far , see u all next time.

Re: Opel (Vauxall) Kadett V8 GTR 1:10 scratch build

Hi all,

Its's quiet here so i will add an update for my build.

During test fitting of the frontspoiler i found out that the left front wing was 1,5mm wider as the other side.

So first thing to do is shorten it.
I removed the outer wing part:

With a pencil i drew a line for the part which is to wide:

Then i marked it wit a piece of yellow tape to cut it:

The new edge was trimmed and filed and the previously removed round edge was glued on again.

The front spoiler is also almost ready:

Test fit on the car to be sure it will fit this time:

The grate between the hood and the window is next to be made.
First i cut the base out of 1mm styrene plate.

The grate i made from strips styrene 0,75x1,5 mm thick, glued in all on the same distance from each other using a 1mm styrene fitting piece.

The hood which i cut front the front body will be replaced by a new part from 0,5mm thick styrene.

On both sides the hood is thicker so i added two pieces of 0,75mm styrene on both sides.

The pre-cut parts:

Test fit:

Both sides glued on:

On the bottom there will be two grates to create an airflow through the radiator.

The have a small angle so i made a few styrene pieces to fit the grate.

The grates itself were made with 2 small stafs which will rest on the opening in the hood.

These are all the small parts, all cut and filed to the same length and hight:

I used 2mm thick styrene fitments to get all the parts at the same distance:

Then something else, i made the post for the cooling water reservoir:

And i made an oil recovery tank:

With a small air filter on top:

Thats it for now, i will continue later.....

Re: Opel (Vauxall) Kadett V8 GTR 1:10 scratch build

Hi all.

Small update, i've been busy with some airhoses for the airjack system and fuel lines towards the engine.

The airjacks themself still had to be painted silver, i did it with a pencil because painting them with an airbrush is nearly impossible.

It silver saturation looks not quit from so close but with the naked eye and in those corners it nearly visible.

This is how they were:

Picture below shows the fittings i made to connect the hoses:

And here's one connected.

The hoses were made from black rope which i have painted with a molotow chrome marker.

These hoses are clamped with rubber rings and metal clamps to the chassis.

Rubber bands made from shrink tube, and the metal clamps from a beer can.

Some fuel lines are inside the car made from aluminium black wire.

Inside the interior is also the oil tank connected with some hoses.

And the bottom of the tank is prepared with some joints.

And some hoses next to the engine position.

going to the back of the car:

And last item i have fitted the brake fluid containers and the pedal box in the interior, not quit finished with the cabling.

Thx for watching.

Still watching, MC, and really enjoying what you're doing!

Have to keep reminding myself this is 1:10, not 1:8 - love the pipe fittings and clips. This is going to be an absolute jewel when it's completed.

Re: Opel (Vauxall) Kadett V8 GTR 1:10 scratch build

Hello all.

Next update starting with some difficuties.

The grate which i made in the previous update needs to be attached to the chassis but i can only paint it when it is not attached.

So i found a way to make it fit using white glue and to de-attach it to get it painted.

This is the starting point, the grate is glued with white glue to the chassis at the correct position using some small pieces of square staff.

Now i have to close the gaps on both sides and make it strong enough to hold the doors because the hinges will be on this part.

After all that was glued together and sanded i could remove the whole part from the chassis.

This part will now slide on to the chassis without any problems.

And here a test fit with the front of the body:

Last update i also made a oil catch tank, that is now glued in place and connected with the oil tank inside:

The going to the engine i still had to install the fuel lines wich go to the injectors, but before that i used some carbon decal to detail the air flow pieces which are next to the intakes.

And the fuel lines installed:

Next were the ignition cables, normally quite simple but these ones have hexagonal heads.

To make them i cut round pieces of styrene and squeezed the with my hex plier into the shape.

I drilled 0,6mm holes in them and glued som small round 0,6mm staff in them.

Over these small pieces i glued small pieces of thicker aluminium tube cut with a razor blade.

The ignition cables are made from 0,6 mm tin wire, cut on different lenghts all going through the firewall towards the ignition system on the other side.

After the paint job:

And glued in place using some white glue.

I also made some other small parts like the next one, this will be the dash holder wich will be attached to the main rollcage.

And i completed the fittment of the frontbumper to the front of the body.

I drilled small holes in the bumper and teh front of the body and used small pieces of round staff to secure it. (temporary)

The towing eye for the front of the car is glued to the chassis and i made a hole in the bumper to slide through.

Last but not least, i have tried to make som tires the same way as Scratchbuild makes them.

I'm pretty sure i don't have the same drill as he has and that's making it a bit difficult.

I have to drill two holes (outer and inner) but they need to be centered on the same spot but because this blue foam is so soft and i use a not so stable drill holder it's just trying till i have a good one.

That's it for this time, i hope u enjoyed it.
