Last night I was thinking about this and realized that splitting up the forum wont reduce the number of posts, only split up the posts into diffrent catagorys. The whole point of this is to slow down turnover rates of the topics right? Then I feel that the only way to do this right is to make at least 4 diffrent subforums. By limiting ourselves to two subforums we will still have the prob. of high turnover rates, although it will indeed help some.

Well, mentel, stop crying, I read your suggestion, and I m backing it for 100%, it's the most sane thing to do over here. Otherwise people will lose track of interesting posts, newbies will buck up their posts and clogg the different subfolders.
Two subs sounds cool; one for tightly model related issues like M. said and one for more loosely conversations, but not as loose as in O-T . I think we will have to have some verystrict rules in the future if you want to have those kind of subforums. But what the Hey, just leave is as it is and teach newbies how to behave .? Im really leaning for the 3 sub-forums:
1) general: classified, good deals, meets, etc. 2) progress and finished modles (my fav!) 3)customization,painting,detailing questioins, and etc. my 2 cents |

having my show car, being into salt water fish, and into models, i am part of alot of forums!!! about 10 or so. and by far i think it is a great idea to break the site up a little. it is just way to unorganized right now... one thing that i whould like to suggest about a link subforum/or sticky, however you decide to do it is, now chatter in there.. just post what the link is, and what you can find on the site, and that's it. I whould like you to take a look at this site to see how they split there forum up, it might give you some good ideas http://dsmtuners.com/forums/ . obviously it's not a model site and the subforums whould be nothing like that, but out of all the forums that i am a part of that site is deffinetly the best. and by the way it also has 16,785 members, and it's only been up and running since november of 2001... jason

3 sub forums is a good way to go
I agree with the 3 sub forums suggested:
1) General 2) Projects 3) Painting/customizing/detailing and similar Too many forums might be overkill. Also, I believe someone mentioned tight rules when posting - I'm with that esp. with the Projects sub forum. Hopefully with less threads in this forum, people won't have the need to start up numerous threads on the progress or finished pix of the SAME model in an attempt to get people to see it. But, then again there many the few and this needs to be monitored. |

Why on Earth would you want painting, detailing and stuff be separate from projects?

becuse they are different. painting and detainling topics are usually to do with how to do this and how to do that. but on the other hand the projects topics aren't usually asking for help on how to do something, but rather showing off how there project is going. that's just my out take on it. i honestly feel that the more subforums there are the more organized it will be and the easier it will be for new people or even more advanced hobbiest to find there answer to a certain problem, or question. jason
ps. i know that i am still new, but im just trying to help. this is a great site and i whould just like to see it git better than it already is. |

In theory I don't like the idea of splitting the Forum into sub-sections, but with the current situation something has to be done. If we do choose to go down this path then in my view it would be best to keep the number of sub-forums to a minimum. I agree with the idea of three suggested so far, titles could be:
1. Modeling techniques 2. Progress and finished models 3. General discussion Techniques for all the painting, detailing, and building questions, tips and ideas. Progress and finished models for all the specific models and projects we're working on and/or completed. General for the order inquiries, reference photos, welcome threads, etc. That way all the interesting threads will be in the first two and the useless crap will hopefuly stay in the last one ![]() Finally if anybody is interested in a WRC model forum, I'll volunteer to be moderator! |

I think that there should be one for all questions about painting/priming.....all the help stuff.
And the other forum for pics. All progress pics and finished pics. |

This time around I voted for subforums. Last time I was against it, because the idea was brought up for the wrong reasons. Now it's the right time to do it, because yes, sometimes I have to go through a lot of pages whenever I'm not able to connect for a couple of days.
I leave the split up to you guys. I'm sure something decent will come out of it. Looking forward to that! |
