I can only tell you that I found AF and showed it to Bob IIRC...that's how us two joined about the same time.

You were showing me pictures that you had found...I was the one that told you there was a forum that I had found the day previous...the rest is history.

Great minds think alike

I found this place, looked it over, next day or later same day Brian forwarded model photos from here, I told him "did you know there's a forum there too?" and the rest is history.

Revell Ferraris have gotten good enough that we don't need Tamiya to do them any longer. With Revell we'll get a kit that's at least 90% as good as Tamiya, maybe better, for 1/3 the price of a Tamiya. Which helps us afford real Tamiya kits like the DBS that nobody else was going to make

That means the JP price will be somewhere around 4000 yen. Hobby Word will eventually offer 20% discount, so that should bring the kit price to 3200 yen. An estimated shipping cost for one kit (like Tamiya's Enzo) is 1180 yen, so the total comes to 4380 yen, or about 49 USD.

A typical Japanese music CD is 3000 yen, so 4000 yen is about 1.333 times greater. I know Best Buy sells a CD for $12-$15, so a fair price for the kit in the U.S. should be around $16-$20.
That means the USD is way under-evaluated, or JPN is too over-evaluated (although the real currency market isn't that simple).

Very true. Revell has really stepped up their game. I enjoy building their kits now!
Sometimes I think Tamiya prices don't make sense and are not mainly based on the Yen(they think they are better, but Hasegawa might have a thing or two to say about that!).

yeah, Japanese Yen at the moment is not strong against the GBPound and USDollar, its 140Yen to the Pound, it used to be 200-220 Yen couple year ago, a typical Tamiya kit including shipping was £20, now its £30, no wonder its $70 now, or about £35-40 here

i paid £21 inc shipping for Tamiya Nissan GT-R from HLJ, since it never arrived as postman never left card and it went back to japan, and then recession happened, i couldnt pay for shipping again, so i asked for refund, so they refunded me the kit price, which came to £25, so i got money back plus a little extra.

243XX 1/24 Aston Martin DBR9S (not yet fully confirmed)

i think u mean:
24316 Aston Martin DBS (not DBR9S)
24317 Mercedes Benz SLR 722
24318 Porsche 935-78 (Re-issue)
243XX Nissan Skyline GT-R Taisan

anyway, whats the point of re-issuing old kits with new numbers? why dont they keep original number? its only when the kit has a new number if its a different livery ie- 24310 Mercedes C9 AEG, which is a re-issue of 24091 with new decals.
ive been trying to get the 935-78 since Tamiya re-released it few years back and HLJ messed up my order and i never got the kit, so looks i may have a chance now.

as with most guys here, i have most of the Tamiya kits, whats the point of buying 24295-24307 Ferraris when most guys already have the original releases?

Maybe got to do with re-printed decals (sometimes done by a different brand)

Not sure how much truth there is in this, but I heard from the local Tamiya distributor, that once a kit is released it can't be re-priced (the price in JPY is printed on the box, and that's the price it must stay at.....)

Re-releasing as a 'new' kit with a different number (and minor change like Cartograf decals rather than in-house variety) allows you to put the price up.....
