Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

yepp yepp yepp I am so happy the producer of the roll cage sent me a very nice pdf catalogue where I can see a lot of extra details not clear in my pictures (mostly I have pics of the external part of the car,and some open doors)
As usual small companys give a great support,if they can.
Really better than any big car producer, that usually neither answers to emails

happy guy here.

That's perfectly clear, tyres don't have a low profile...
Strange to me for a track racing car but only pic has the truth

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

Looking at hte pictures of the real car and your conversion side by side I noticed that the shape of the front wheel arch is wrong on your model. It is too big, and protrudes too far - look at the fender gill on the real car - it doesn't touch the arch, but rather the arch starts couple of inches after the gill. Also the ducts behind the arch are curved slightly to mimic the shape of the arch. Its minor, but I thought I'd point that out before its too late.

Also, look a the side skirt - see how lover rib extends all the way to the rear wheel arch? Yours ends up somewhere mid way through the skirt.

Tremendous project! I need to pick one of these diecasts up and see if I could build something out of it!

yes, also I noted that, but tried correct it before and I was not able to, this cause the wheel arch of the toy is a little different than the correct one (as well as if u look at the front lights, correct ones on e92 are much larger than mines.IMO this is the biggest problem and the main difference from the real car).
Also the air intake there near is different in the 1:1 car, bigger, with a different agle and more detailed (inside is clearly visible a small grid, divided in 2).
I tried also to keep the wheel arch higher and do that side corner more angled, but I should open more the wheel arch, while in the real it is as the street version. They just cutted the rear wheel arch.

U know I try to make something similar, real correct model needs a better base to start with.

The under door area is btw still workable, and I will do it right now(thinking if better use milliput or plasticard L angleg and then shaped).
I shall keep the L angle to the read wheel arch,as in all pictures, and think that is still possible to do
Stay tuned....

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

Alex message is always too important, so now I am planning to correct the front wheel arch.
I didint note it when build it cause was continuosly looking at the front side, and few images for the other side.

Since u wrote it man, I continue look at that point and tell myself - Alex is right Alex is right Alex is right...WE HAVE TO FIX IT
U are one of my master modellers, Alex...how cannot I listen to u? (or at least try to).
Power of the forum....we will see what will come.

For the moment I started to make the lower side skirt longer, and for this I used some old milliput.
I had an old box open in 2004, but correctly closed it still works well (the milliput is really an incredible putty),and worked it with a wet little wood)
My usual mistake with milliput is that I cut always too much of it and trash a lot, so I used some parts to fix the Pegaso Model figure of my idol Governor Schwarzenegger as Conan the barbarian, still there to be finished (did it with oil paints, love the ugly look of young arnold)

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

and here we are again.
As suggested before I reworked the front wheel arch.
This time we have up to 2 mm space from the lateral air intake, and I reworked also all the side of this arch.
ALso recreated now a straight side of 1 mm for all the wheel arch, and will add (later on) a metal label.

Also the door handles have been remould.
the dremel is an incredible tool for such kinda works. With a metal ball blade i made the internal bubble and rebuild also the handles with 0,50 plasticard

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

so now is time to create the air intake over the roof this bmw uses in some races (italy can be VERY hot during summer season).
I will see later on if use it or not, cause in several picture that is not mounted....but I do it anyway

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

and now a question for u guys.
Its nearly time to make the rear main wing.
The car (actually a prototype always evolving from race to race) used some different wings.
I add 2 pics of the 2 types used...tell me which one do u like more (even if I already did bot the supports for that).

The holed one also has a very bad X cable mounted on, very nice detail.

just let me know...

Wow...that's brave!

Great job modifying that, watching it very closely.

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24

so..still in the doubt of what to choose between the low and high rear wing..I made theme both
For the supports I used a sheet of alu of the same thikness of the most common PE parts, and remade also 2 metal pins to fix the wing into the back of the gtr.
I probably will choose for the high wing, cause more used and a lot more aggrssive.

and now we go on doing in the same way the 6 front blades under the main lights in the front end
