Naki,
I can not believe you just posted something off of the CNN website. According to you in some other threads you have stated that they only publish what our government tells them to and you can not believe a word of it.

I have never lived in another country, but have visited several and I really do like living here and am damn proud to be american. Any body have a problem with that you can come over here and speak to Smith & Wesson!

in case you didn't notice,I merely quoted the link from further up the page, normally ,I wouldn't even wipe my backside with a CNN news report. As for your comments on Smith&Wesson....Just adds fuel to my theory that America's gun laws are about a million years out of date.Civilised people would rather not live in a country awash with firearms.

According to that CNN list of countries I moved from not that good- to worst- BS- NZ and Italy are better than a vast majority on that list IMHO- hence I can't take that list seriously

Be careful of who you are calling uncivilised.

If the hat fits, wear it. I don't recall attatching that label to anyone.

1st w00t Australia is no.2, only behind Norway (which I cannot wait to visit in the next couple of years).

2nd *This post has fuck all if anything to do with current war*

I sit here in complete shock. I am trying to work out if this thread was posted in jest, ignorance or arrogance. I honestly can't decide which. I am not anti-American or anti-America, but it stuns me that you make the assumption that educated people reading the material on this board are actually jealous of the USA and inhabitants. I don't mind patriotism, within limits, but the majority of the US population represented in this thread has taken blind patriotism to a new extreme - one where they have seemingly lost all ability to think independently. The US, while having nothing inherently wrong with it per se, is a thoroughly flawed country - as is any other. The gun laws are out of date, the university level education system is a joke, the state health care is non-existant, and for the most part the media and education system have conspired to produce ~260 million people who are amongst the Western world's most insular; completely ignorant of the majority of the rest of the world (ask me to back that up - I dare you). Before I start getting critical, the prevailing societal attidude that comes across CLEARLY is 'Me First'. The US is the world's number ONE polluter per head by FAR. I'm not going to go on, as it would be unkind...but this thread really pisses me off.

So I guess we should wipe the second amendment? In that case, if we ever did have a totilatarian government, we could defend ourselves. It may sound outrageous, but that is the whole point of that amendment, the right of the people to protect themselves.

What I take out of the "civilized people" sentence is that everybody that owns a gun is a redneck and is not civilized.

You know what, this just adds to my theory that someone should have a fair trial in the U.S. Why don't we just kill everybody up for murder or rape?

And I guess us Americans are the only ones who are blinded by what we believe? Us dirty Americans! What were we thinking? Having some resemblance of patriotism does not require anything but a good heart and trust.

And I'd LOVE to here you explain how you can criticize America for its actions when you live in a damn country where morons chase crocodiles for a living(just one ex. of stupidity, not everybody in Australia is like that) How are the gun laws out of date?

And your post pisses me off. It sounds as if because the U.S. doesn't do anything except sit there, be stupid, pollute, adn get fed bullcrap from the media. Is that what you are trying to say?

And I don't care if you did say that your post isn't anti-American, IT FREAKING IS. You slammed American beliefs and totally ruined anybody's argument on here that they don't have a bone to pick with the U.S., just with George Bush.

1.Read it again - no problem with Patriots (although I am just wee bit cynical, in case you can't tell), only those blinded by it. Can't see the forest from the trees if you like.

2.a.That television show was created for American audiences only. I first saw the show when I was in America. That guy is a wanker. If that is the extent of your argument/knowledge, thank you for proving my point.
b.The gun laws are out of date because so many of your countrymen are into their 'rights' you have a country run amok with idiots shooting each other. When was the last fatal school shooting rampage you heard of outside the US?

3.I don't care if it pisses you off. The nerve of the thread starter, and all those continuing to back him up because it is representative of a prevailing attitude pisses the rest of the world off. I was merely pointing out why myself, along with millions of others, would never wish to move from the country we currently reside in to live in the US.

4. In this thread I do have a US bone to pick - the nerve and arrogance to assume that not only are you so far superior to the rest of the world, but that people outside your country actually beleive that.

I don't enjoy turning my TV on and having 80% of it come from the US. Here in MY country we are constantly bombarded with your 'culture'. Did you do it? No. Did I ask for it? No.
The final point I will make in this post is that the attitude so clearly outlined for you here is not only undesireable in some parts of the world, but downright unwelcome and unwanted.

And I would agree that this thread never should have been started. But that does not call for your bashing of us. Yeah we have morons, and a lot of them happen to be in politics and the media. We as a people can't help that except vote and voice your opinion. Here in America if we don't like a t.v. show, we turn it off. That kills ratings, and the show is gone. One point I would make is that all these countries that are against the war only make more people stiffen their patriotism.

I can see whay you are fed up, but sadly most of this won't change in the near future. You know that this war is for a greater good: the freedom of the Iraqi people. They would never have been freed if it wasn't for a speedy and brave decision to put aside the world opinion and do the right thing. You can say this war is about oil, money, power, etc. But when you see those peope rejoicing over their freedom, it is special. And that is why we are there.....Tony Blair put aside his personal career and probably won't get elected again. But in the end, you will see that he did the right thing, and I hope his people will. He is a great man.

I can agree with almost everything you say. I thank you for realising that it was not an attack on America or Americans, merely my incredulity at the prevailing opinion.

As for the war spiel - let's not go there. I've heard both sides of the argument too many times and it's wearing pretty thin. I beleive what I beleive about the war - and will continue to do so. As stated in my first post in this thread, my comments and thoughts had NOTHING to do with the war.
