Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo
Clay, that linkage is magnificent! You ought to consider an F1 in 1/12 or something like that - it would be quite something...

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo
Thanks guys.
![]() I machined four new shock tops from brass with the hex slots at the bottom. The bodies are from aluminum, and the rod end tops and shafts are from RB Motion. I'll add RB rod ends at the bottom once I determine the length. I'm also going to add the mfg decal to them once Mike's goodies sheet comes back. ![]() ![]() Before the rear end can go in, I needed to make a new cooler. I machined one quick out of aluminum, added some lightening holes, holes for the hoses, and then dropped in some PE mesh. Now I can drop in the rear end, add the shocks and springs, and the rear suspension will just about be finished. ![]() Next area I need to get caught up on is the engine. I mounted my engine plate, installed the water pump, and started getting my pulleys figured out. Also made a new oil pump. Valve covers are getting painted now, then I can get to plug wires, oil lines and all that good stuff. ![]() ![]() ![]() One last bit I made was the remote oil filter. This was machined from one piece of aluminum, painted black and installed. ![]() All my prep work is finally out of the way and I think I'm ready to turn this thing into the man of steel. ![]() Rear end is finally done and ready to be installed, and I've got a bit further on the engine. With a long weekend coming up, I want to make some big progress. ![]() ![]() The rear suspension is now in for good. Once it was installed, I added the shocks, chains, panhard bar, and coil springs. I also hooked up the rear end cooler lines. Big relieve to have this whole area done! ![]() ![]() ![]() I also made some progress on the front suspension. Soft brake lines are on, coil springs are in, and I mounted the front shocks as well. ![]()

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo
And finally, I got to do some painting. I masked off for the blue and after a few coats of white primer I covered the entire front with HoK Kandy Kobalt Blue basecoat. From there I masked off the cape patterns on the side and worked in the light and dark areas using some loose templates and some free hand airbrushing.
Next I masked off the nose and added the upper pecs area. Finally I added the "Six Pack" of abs. The sides were a piece of cake. The pecs were pretty easy, but those abs were a nightmare. I did them at least six times and I'm still not totally happy with them. But the thing to remember is that a bunch of this work will be covered with decals. So I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself. Tomorrow I'll mask off all the blue and start on the red half. It should be a lot easier! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking...... ClayK

![]() ![]() ![]() I hate you... again and again. ![]() Come on, you applied the paint not for real. This is photoshop. Period! Robert

Stunning progress, love all the machined parts. Just got the lastest Scale Auto & was stunned at your build, you built the clutch!!! freakn awesome!!
Q. what paint are you using for the airbrushing work, i read you used HOK Blue, but are you using HOK paints for the detail parts in the "body parts"?

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo
Thank you very much guys! Still a long ways to go on the painting. You really don't know how things are going to go until you are almost done. Lots of luck involved!
I've been a way for a few days, but I finally got back to some detailing last night. I finished up adding all the hard lines and junctions for the brakes, and I also got my machined steering column and u-joints installed. Now the ONLY thing left on the front suspension remaining is the front suspension tethers. But those are a piece of cake. ![]() Anyway, here's how the front end is shaping up. ![]() ![]() I started back in on the engine as well. I tied up my plug wires that were all over the place. I used Pro Tech wire and boots. Charlie's plug wire is just the best. It has this softness to it that lets it lay just perfect. I also got the tranny breather line installed as well. Next up will be getting the oil pump on and running all the oil lines. The hard stuff! ![]() ![]() And as I was working a long I've been doing a few test fits to make sure everything is going to fit. So far it looks like it's going to be an easy final engine install when the time comes. As long as my headers agree to it. ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking! Clay

Your work has everything in it. Amazing attention to detail, ingenuity, cleanliness of exectution, classiness. All these definitely give your models the WOW factor. Extremelly impressive work.
