Ah well.... the trio of insanity strikes again.
Great start to an interesting project! I am sure you'll amaze us even more than in the previous toples builds! Just one question: will the PE set be available from automobilminiaturen.de ? Keep up the inspiring work! Cheers from Germany |

Re: Die Töpless Triö Rides Again! Porsche 356 Group Büild
Güten tag, meine freunde!
Lately, I've been amusing myself during some nice weather by suffering through some bodywork. Sure, the detail in Enthü kits is nice, but the body parts fit on this one needs some real work. The big problem on the 356B/C body is the bönnet. ![]() Not easy to see on the white body, but the bönnet sits too deep in the body, so there are significant steps on either side. ![]() I thickened the edges with epoxy pütty, so that the bönnet edges were flush with the body. ![]() Then it's just a matter of sanding it down and making it all even.... ![]() The bönnet is fitted in place, so both the bonnet and body can be sanded together until the fit is perfect. Sand, fit, sand, fit, prime, sand, fit, prime, sand, prime, sand, fit.... ![]() And on and on until.... ![]() Finally! Greatly improved. This is maybe two weeks of rather tedious effort. I'm really not a fan of pütty work, but it's satisfying when it comes out. The primer has been sanded until it (almost) shines. The chrömed parts in my kit was really rather poor. ![]() The parts of coürse have plenty of flash and sink marks- but even the chröme itself is barely present. ![]() See all the dark spots? No, it's not dark reflection. That's where chröme didn't quite get applied. (Notice the almost bare headlight reflectors?) No choice but to strip it all off, and redo it in Alclad. But to avoid any Enthü fit surprises, I decided it was best to at least fit the chrome parts so I didn't discover something nasty after the body was painted. ![]() Happily, they all fit. Now I'm getting excited about this one! ![]() Porsche Bali Blau ![]() OK, really it's Tamiya TS15, but it's rather close. ![]() Ready for some clearcoat and chröme! And maybe some photoetch....

What a truly fantastic looking car! Great job on the bonnet. When you sand it then prime it so often, how do you avoid the primer flooding up the panel lines, grills details etc? Are you just re-scribing the lines every so often? Or controlling where it sprays on, using airbrush primer? Thanks.

Nice! You are a wise man dryfitting everything. Paint looks nice. Never seen a 356 with this color. Good luck with the next steps!

Re: Die Töpless Triö Rides Again! Porsche 356 Group Büild
Finally very much desired Rüby Red is up!
Very strange colör: needs a lot of light to express himself at his best! In teh workshop is almost bourgogne/maroon but just expose it at the daylight and he switch to red, with bourgögne shadow and pink reflex..... in a word... great Italian Red (obviöusly I meant thöse you'll drink!) Work was everithing the same: accurate primer job, polished with 2K 3M paper, acryl barrier to seal plastic with white acrylics primer, and straight the Ruby! Obviously every step well polished several times. Ruby not yet polished, ah, I forgot to mention: this is not matt base we're used, I wanted to use same stuff like before the 2K clears over '70: this is hard solvent (toluene) gloss color, applied in several (10-12?) thin layers, before last two wet coats I polished everything with 6K mesh. Now it show a fine orange peel, we'll see how to do (since the color is a bit transparent you'll wreck all if you expose a lighter red or worst the white primer). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can't wait to have it polished to show off PE and scratchbuilt windshield/surround.
