Re: In a clash of cultures, a new Skyline may emerge!

Nice job! Cool idea! Are You going to keep the hood sealed, or is there going to be something under it? If so, hope it's gonna be the rb!

Re: In a clash of cultures, a new Skyline may emerge!

BUMP!!

After a year and a half, I've made some progress

It's all Veyron's fault, with his terminal case of "Nismosis"

I left off not completely happy w/the taillights, I've smoothed them out, and it's almost ready for finished primer. I did a bit of tweaking to the Magnum rear bumper to fit the contours of the new corners created by grafting in the R34 taillight panels. I had thought of grafting in part of the R34 rear bumper, but it wasn't worth the effort for so little change; the SRT-8 bumper looks pretty aggressive already.

An executive decision was made last weekend when modelpaloozing w/Veyron and Mach I 2003; I'm going to simplify my life and glue the hood shut. Nice SRT-8 engine for some other project! This will still have the RHD dash, GTR seats, silver/graphite paint scheme, black wheels, and NISMO stripes.

Re: In a clash of cultures, a new Skyline may emerge!

Bob, this is one mod that's gonna stir up adrenalin man!

Hah, never knew R34 look so good in this form!!!
say, i agreed that the rear gate looked a little plain. i was thinking if you could create some uneven 'contours' using styrene will add some depth to it.

by the way, is the extended roof line at the rear meant to be there as planned? i thought it was a brilliant idea that the tail gate 'opens' & hinges from there! enormous rear opening access!!! haha...

one more thing, the rear gate's opening must be consider here (even if it's not opening), imagine if the gate was to be in 'open' state (just imagine), the rear gate line along the bigger round taillight may looked a little out of place.
just a casual thought...

well bob, it's already a devil build now...make it even more 'hell yeah' (steve austin 3:16)!
gee, now that i've seen your work...i cannot guarantee if my R34 Z-tune will look like what it should be!!! maybe a GTR sedan!?!?

cheers!

Trust me, I've thought of all the above long before this point, I'm happy where it is now and there is no detail that would not work on a real car. I'm not inclined to overstyle the back of the model just because the R34 was a busy/overstyled design (and there are more than enough busy gimmicks/vents in the front). The hatch opening into the roof is the same as a stock Magnum. When the full-width rear glass is in place and all details added like the rear spoiler at the top corner of the roof, there will be plenty of detail back there. I may graft in corner/fog lamps, but nothing more than that. This project has taken long enough to get this far, I'm not going to complicate it any further with superfluous styling gimmicks

Re: In a clash of cultures, a new Skyline may emerge!

A bit more progress, Veyron's Nismosis is contageous

Bodywork has been driving me crazy; just getting little things smoothed out has been a bit of an ordeal and it's never going to be as clean and pristine as I'd like it to be. Oh well, it's silver now with one coat of clear. Next step will be masking/spraying the lower body aero pieces gunmetal, then I'll give the car a good deep clearcoat. The hood slats refuse to smooth out the way I want them to, so I'll probably shoot them satin black. I think all the NISMO stripes will work fine on it, maybe with a bit of trimming. I'm a lot more enthused & motivated now that it's painted
