Starions rock! I wish they made more of them... The easiest way to describe a Starion is to say, take a dodge Daytona, and make it real wheel drive.

So whats the deal with the insurance and the turbo? Is it just for the turbo Skyline, or does it mean FD turbos, 951s, MR2 GTS?

I think the optimum car for you is a 944S2... NA, 220 hp DOHC 3.0 liter engine, 50/50 weight distribution, and a big aftermarket.

In fact, the 924 was car the first gen RX7s completely ripped off, and the 944 was the car the second gen RX7s almost totally ripped off.

Hey, you forgot the third party in the glassback styling ripoff scam of the late 70's-early 80's: the C4 Corvette. Park it next to a 1st gen RX-7 and a Porsche 924. They're damn near identical.

Of course, it happened again in the mid90's. Porsche 968 sort of begat FD which begat the C5 Corvette. Of course, Chevrolet fans will deny this to their last breath.

I agree on the 944. They're slick. Though you can pic up a 928S4 for a few dollars more and really embarrass the street crowds.

Did I mention you can get 400hp out of a 944 turbo engine without difficulty? 300hp just with a chip and exhaust...

The S2 would work well because you have to have a NA engine... If you want 500hp/450ftlbs, you could build a 968 Turbo engine to go in it as well... There are all sorts of lightweight fiberglass parts made for them, as the 944 was used heavily in amateur sports car racing.

Gimme a break. You cant call a rotary sports car unoriginal no matter its styling.

The FC is a beautiful car, and they departed from Porsche styling on that one!

I'm not saying the FB was not an original car, because it was, but the styling was pretty straight up ripoff of the 924. Why do you think they made such an early styling change to the car? Even Mazda recognized the car was too similar to the 924, so they updated it to give it some more distinctive styling cues of it's own.

I don't intend to demean the RX7, but the styling was drawn from the 924. The only car that looked even remotely like that was the TR7, and it was a far sight different from the 924 and RX7.

$10,000 for a supra turbo!? Dude in America supra turbos sell for 25k and up! So if thats in american money get the supra. They are very fast stock and with simple upgrades they can be beasts. They look awesome too.

-or is that some other currency? Pounds?

You're only thinking of the thrid-gen cars. The 2nd gen V6 cars are cheap as hell. Heavy, but cheap.

Celica-Supras are even cheaper, and look badass with the factory "Samurai" bodykit. I should know, my grandfather owned one.

I just saw this thread and for thoses who might think of getting an RX-7 they are fun as hell to drive but a major pain in the a$$ to maintain. You need at least $1,000 USD in the bank at all times just in case something goes wrong or breaks. Plus insurance is a !@#$% problem I'm 23 been driving for 2-3 yrs. (lived in philly mass transportation so need for a license plus was lazy in high school) and my insurance dropped at 23 now I pay $1,660 USD per/year and I have no tickets or accidents on my record. Not sure if it's worth keeping at this time but I will definitely be owning for years to come if not now later.

P.S.
just some advice if you get one never take it to a Mazda dealership to be fixed the charged me $2,500 USD for parts I didn't need (i.e. highest grade tires available, charging me for work I could do myself).

Sorry about length of thread :silly2:
