Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

NSX debate:
Old NSX
New NSX

I really don't think any parts are shared.

SLR debate.

I don't see why Tamiya doesn't just sculpt the chassis like they would in plastic, but mold it in metal. I think that would be a little better than flat black no detail slab right?

yep, I would buy one, but people might complain of the very sharp pieces of metal that are the parts of the diffusers.

They "tried" that with the last Peugeot Rally. Wasn't really successful.

In fact, I really don't care about the Metal chassis of the Xanavi Z. It don't give anything, but you don't lost anything either. But on the Peugeot, it's plainly horrible. And don't forget, if they put a metal chassis, you will have screw instead of parts and your suspension might be over simplified because of that.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

all i want is tamiya can become "normal" after the SLR,die-cast chassis is bullshit,i just want tamiya give us real plastic models as they used to do.if not,the SLR is a gift, and nothing else to expect.

Angry Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

And yet nobody produce the Aston Martin line, c'mon guys! new DBS? DB9 or even DB7 I don't mind! or even BMW new lineup!

Well, the SLR was good but not great I think. The proportion from side view is too weird for me, although I just got the beautiful & original SLR revell from EBAY australia a month ago.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Just read this. Great news! this kit deserves to be like the Enzo and Carrera GT. If it is a metal chassis, then I'm sorry, but Mr T, you are not making my money anymore for half assed kits

Lets hope for the best!!

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

I'm surprised Leon didn't fill everyone in on his paint! He will be adding the exclusive SLR paints to his line (sorry my foreign brethren, US only).
Available July 1, 2006:

2005-06 Crystal Galaxy Black Pearl
2005-06 Crystal Laurite Silver Metallic

Speculation is that eventually the SLR could become available in any of Mercedes' factory colors. Watch for many more Mercedes-Benz factory finishes to be added to our catalog if that happens.

Note: At least one SLR was painted a white pearl finish for a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family. This finish may be Antigua White Pearl, a tricoat finish listed in Mercedes' 2006 formula database which does not appear to be available on any Mercedes-Benz production vehicle. Antigua White Pearl will be added to our catalog immediately upon verification that it is the exact match for the white pearl SLR. So far, no known informational sources can confirm this.

As for Tamiya kitting up some other items, yes, I would agree with most everyone here:
McLaren F1
Aston Martin Vanquish
Two of the cars I would love to see kitted in plastic.
As for the metal chassis, I'll hold judgement until we get more information and test shots.
Chris

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Chris, thanks for mentioning the upcoming Mercedes paint. It'll be nice to have that SLR kit produced to put it on.

I Googled all over to find out more about the pearl white SLR, but no luck. I'm all ears if anyone has anything they can add regarding it. I don't want to bottle Antigua White Pearl as the SLR paint without knowing for sure that it's the accurate match.

And, I'll second your wish list with the addition of the previously mentioned Jaguar XK8 or XKR.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Mercedes does have a white pearl now. Its a Designo color. Look for 2007 SL55's or CLS's with the color. I'm sure its similar.

Leon, how about that bright blue metallic I've seen on the SLR, or the Palladium gray?

After more Googling, I struck upon the following SLR colors:

• Amazonite Blue
• Antimony Gray
• Cassiterite Black
• Coronadite Gray
• Covelline Blue
• Crystal Galaxy Black
• Crystal Laurite Silver
• Crystal Osmium Gray
• Digenite Blue
• Fayalite Green
• Palladium Gray
• Picotite Black

I'll have to see which of these I can get now and which I may have to wait for. Thanks for the tip Chris!

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

I do think that the special order of the McLaren SLR was painted with Designo Mystic Weiss, it's a tricoat white paint dated in 2003 in the Dupont color charts.

It's not exactly a pearl white, it has a basecoat of nearly pure white and a crystal effect over it (in Dupont formula this second coat has just 32 gr of crystal pigment for one litre of binder).

Regards

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

And our beauty:

To me, it's the same color.

In the other hand, I think that Laurite Silver is a new color added in 2005 or 2006 with the other colors in that list. Wasn't the original silver color "Silver Arrow"?
