Actually it's the Sebring race here in the USA.

Peloton is correct. That is a photo from the actual race in Sebring. The sunny pictures in the 1997 GT Endurance for Sebring is incorrect - taken during practice/qualifying. The Sebring race was done in the rain.

Here's an image I pieced together of the F1s in the BMW Museum. In the original shot, the photo is split at the pole between the V12 LMR and GTR #18R, putting them at opposite ends of the picture.

Also, here's a better version of a shot that Chris included on page 1 with the included caption from Driving Ambition. I realized a while back that there is a problem with the caption. Anyone else realize what it is?

Did you mean to put this post in the multiple F1 thread? I certainly haven't heard of any wrecked F1s from Brunei.

Correct!

XP3 does not have high mirrors, and to my knowledge it never has.

What it does have that are different from the car in those photos are the prototype corner lenses. We saw them in the recent photos of XP3 when Gordon particpated in the Alfred Dunhill Motorities Tour. This would not be something that could be easily changed, and there would be no reason to upgrade the nose piece to production spec, and then revert back to the earlier style.

I really don't know which car it is, but that detail certainly rules out XP3 in my mind. We know its an early car since it has the Citroen-sourced mirrors, but as for which chassis it is, that's going to be a tough one to figure out.

If it happened, no photos ever materialized from it.

In this day of digital cameras and cellphone cameras, I find that very hard to believe.
