Re: More Boom :)
you cuss an average of 3-4 times every post lol
i do agree, save your money, read reviews and ask people's opinions about a setup you'd like to buy, get the pros and cons, and then make a decision based on that. Don't go and look at the peak wattage ratings like my friend does, he has a cheap pair of volfenhag 12's and he doesn't even know what RMS is, just took what the guy said at the expo as the truth. I don't think it even lists the RMS on the box...And DEFINITELY don't buy any stereo equipment from walmart. It may look good and costs next to nothing, but you get what you pay for... I've heard nothing but good things about Infinity Perfect's, i'm probably getting a pair of those when i upgrade. They're pretty cheap too, about $100 per sub. I don't know much about which amps are good, but find one that matches your RMS, and Class D mono if you're powering subs. Also, try to get good speakers for mid-bass and the high notes, because a system with all BASS is never a good thing, unless you're strictly competition

Re: More Boom :)
I'm not a big fan of Audiobahn or Visonik. We have had them down here for a long time, the local flea market sells them. I will admit they can hit like a mother, but I don't like the quality. For the price if you are just going for DB's, they are good for that. As far as depth, they can't touch MTX, and im sure Infinity. My JL Audio's that I had were good and loud but still didn't have the depth I wanted. I mean even with 2 12's on a 120 watt Planet Audio amp, it hit a 140.8 DB.
I agree though, stick with just 4 12's don't through in any 10s or anything, and upgrade your door speakers if you haven't already. Door speakers you definitly get what you pay for on those. I went through like 5 pairs before I got my MB Quart Components. And bring home some trophies for TLD

I think you should learn what you are talking about before you run your mouth. Audiobahns are good subs. As far as cheap crap that would be MTX my friend. Also he was telling what his setup was and his plans. He didn't ask for you to bash on his system. IF you can't post something to help or constructive don't post at all....either that or go to Honda-Tech they seem to be full of your kind.

Re: More Boom :)
What MTX did he have? the lower models aren't that great, but from all the Audiobahn's that I have heard, yes they are loud, but they don't have a good frequency range. But that was the last time I heard them too which was atleast 3 yrs ago. Ive been out of the sub game for a little while, can still wire them up like a mo fo though.

yea i'll agree, the frequency range on the visoniks arent that great but when they hit.... they hit hard, we were sitting there lasntight waiting for the tow truck to pull my buddies jeep outta a ditch and were messing with my system, since we were in a residential neighbourhood at 12 am, we turn the bass right down on the deck, i put a rap song on and it still hit really fucking hard with the bass turned right down
as for door speakers.... i spent 32 bucks on 80 dollar sonys lets just say, they were "mis-packaged"

Re: More Boom :)
ice x im glad to see someone else has the same problem i do people buying speakers cause the max power is up somewhere past 1500 and they think that more power is more bass. as far as the perfects go i had a friend who was pushing them with a profile ca 1200 which is 300 watts rms per channel you could here his truck from over a mile away. one word of caution though i did make the mistake of pushing more tham rms which 350 and it preety much died 10 minutes after i hooked it up they dont need a lot of power which is good. as far as audibahn being better thatn mtx thats a laugh audibahn still uses compressed paper as a cone and foam for the surround material thats top of the line back in 1970 good quality speakers have either aluminum or composite/graphite cones and rubber or a composite for the surround. il admit for the price they do hit and yeah you can tear alot of systems apart with them. but ive also seen the cone start ripping apart the surround fall out and my friend had 4 of them each with 500 watts he caught 2 of them on fire. yeah most of the stereo equipment is based mainly on opinion, but most proffesionals would point you towards mtx. infinity, jl audio, directed audio and occasionaly depending on where you go audiobahn. and tony what series jl subs do you have my uncle has one jl w3 pushing 125 rms from an mtx amp it sound like 2 12" subs.

Re: Re: More Boom :)
Well first of all go back to school and learn some basic English. Second last time I checked my 12's have a stamped and balanced aluminum cone. Not paper

Re: More Boom :)
Mine were just W0's. Picked them up for I think $75 for both in a box. They did hit, but I didn't like their frequency, but it also had to do with the amps I had. I went back and forth between the Planet Audio 120 watt amp and a cheap Jensen 300 watt amp. The Planet Audio was a friends, so I borrowed it for the last comp I did just to see what I could get out of it.
And don't start jumping on him because he didn't feel like adding punctuation and capitalizing everything. I do that when I'm feeling lazy. Atleast you can understand what he is saying unlike others who can't spell. But he has a very good point. Most stereo stuff is all matter of opinion...and I did say MOST!

Re: More Boom :)
well they have one of the elements that make a good sub but that still doesnt make them any better. About half of what audiobahn makes is compressed paper they try selling them for the same price as an mtx 8000 or an infinity perfect. As far as the W0's with tony get a good set of rears with a nice amp and it would sound fucking awsome, you can get the W0's to hit real nice with the rears you should get some nice frequency range. Another thing that has to alot with the way a sub hits is the type of car a hatchback is going to hit so much harder than a car with a trunk, i noticed alot more of a frequency range and it hit so much nicer when i put the 2 perfects in my blazer. Now i have those sitting in my room with the 2-15" mtx and i just put the first 9500 in there with some tuning it could hit as hard as the 2-15"s. In my opinion audibahns are pieces of shit. Attacking me for my bad english wont get you anywhere. im glad to see someone agrees with me.

Re: More Boom :)
I say if you've got the 2 subs already, just get a NICE amp to power them. As long as you have good clean power, and the right enclosure, you can get just about anything to sound good. Shit, just for giggles my friend went out and bought a 12" jensen XS or whatever from wal-mart and built a box for it and put it in his 98 eclipse. That thing near hits as hard as my two sonys, and it clear as a bell. And I have a Memphis power reference 500w class D amp. I just hate those sony's.
To help with the infinity part. I had 2 perfect kappa's. They got stolen. Those were the best speakers I ever had, you could play the shit outta them and they were so SMOOTH and CLEAR. I was going to get some more memphis speakers, but now I think I'm going to get myself some more kappas. They are so fucking awesome. I also would not hesitate to buy audiobahn though, because I've had their speakers, and they last forever! I had 2 12's older models, and my friend got them from a friend, beat the hell outta them, sold em to me, then I beat the hell outta them, then I sold them to a friend he played em, then I wanted them back, then I sold em to a friend who currently has them in his car now, and they still play perfect. The speakers have to be every bit of 6 years old. |
