k3smostwanted was the closest! its a REAR crossmember, from the FWD model. [it MIGHT house the rear gearbox/differential, but i dunno since i don't have a VR4.] i should know b/c 1) i took the picture, and 2) i just finished replacing the rear crossmember and other rear suspension parts. it wasn't that tough, but i used about 1/2 a can of rust penetrant, losts of brake cleaner, an impact wrench. other than that, just a little elbow grease and it was a simple job. so if anyone needs any work done, gimme a holler!

here's another picture for your viewing fancy...

have fun with this one!

Rear camber arm, looks to be the passenger side.

CORRECT! but the only way you might have known it was passenger side was the way in which it was bent, b/c the camber/control arms on the rear suspension are interchangeable for both passenger and driver sides. here's a pic for what a control arm SHOULD look like, adn what mine did look like. note to self: don't take curves at 70mph anymore, my car is not a VR4, and therefore will not handle like a VR4, and there will be resulting suspension damage.

here is some of the chaos...

here's the old damaged crossmember. circled in red is where it was bent (compressed) by the force of hitting the passenger rear wheel on curb at 60mph. the other one is the new undamaged crossmember.

yeah, you might want to stay clear of those curbs, especially at high speeds. i can vouch for that...i have 4 bent/cracked wheels from getting ran off the road by a drunk driver at about 30mph. left some nice sized chips in the curb though...

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
