Re: 93 Grand Cherokee Startup Issues

Ok heres my 2 cents. Hard start, extended crank . First get a reliable pressure gauge, volt meter and niod light. You will be monitoring your fuel pressure, injector pulse, and battery voltage to fuel pump. My bet is that you will have 2 of the three but lacking the fuel pressure. This is a common problem that is caused by the fuel draining back to the tank over night. I am not sure were, but there is a anti drain back valve available to remedy this issue. So stop throwing $$ out the window! If you have the injector pulse, fire but have a slow to charge fuel rail its because your fuel is draining back into the tank and the pump has to prime itself, hence the extended crank. Not the PCM(ECM)!!! The PCM is doing its job by grounding out the relay, but its timed, and unfortunately its not long enough to re-prime the pump.
So here are some options, got to the dealer and purchase a NEW pump ( FORGET aftermarket) they are not going to fix your issue!!!! The new pump should have the drain back valve included(they are sold as an assembly so it will cost around 2-4 big ones. Option 2 in the morning cycle your key about 2-3 times, you should ere the pump cycle too. Then on the 3-4 time start the jeep.

Re: 93 Grand Cherokee Startup Issues

FYI I noticed it was something to do with the check engine light and whether it was on or not. Even after 5-6 cycles I could not hear the pump prime but if I repeatedly cycle it on/off eventually would start clicking the ASD solenoid for a few seconds, then it would stop, then it would turn on the check engine then it would prime the pump. Anyways I just got a new Jeep but thanks for the reply
