Broke your so right, every mfg. in the USA, Japan and Europe use there engines on different platforms with different states of tune. Very cost effective. The exotic's,that's a different story and why there cost is so high.
I was thinking of the first car I had. A 32 Ford 3 door with a 59AB flathead V8, 85HP and was used in all Fords, Mercury cars, trucks, vans everything. My dad got it new for $450, then gave it to my brother who built it up, and when he went off to WW II gave it to me.

all of nissan's v-6's of today are based off our beloved vg. so technically, the engine in the z33 is a highly tuned z32 engine.
