 Why do you keep saying this? I don't care if you vent to the atmostphere, it's just air. However the car might run a bit better if you recirculate it. Eclipse and Honda usually vent to the atmostphere because the MAP doesn't mesure air but...ahh whatever. I'm sure you're heard it all before.

Get a facelift S14!

Because any car with a MAF should have the BOV recirculated. Compromising the air/fuel ratio for a "cool noise" (OK, I admit I love the noise too!!) is concidered a sin. Especially on the SE-R mailing list.

There are a few BOV's that still make a rather loud noise even when recirculated however.

I know but it's (was) his car. Now if he was venting the wastegate to the atmosphere I'd have a concern. It's really a drivability/engine managment issue. Not bad enough for a "die luke die" comment.

I consider LED windshield washers as sin but as long as it's not on my car.

Hmm.. I wonder if you removed your cat and had the BOV venting to atmo if you could shoot some flames out the exhaust during shifts?

I see Touring cup racing on SpeedVision all the time and when ever they shift (mainly down shift) they shoot a nice flame out the back!

I don't know what the BOV would have to do with this, unless you're thinking that it would ignite pure gas. You could set up an anti-lag system like in the WRC cars. You know how those work right, turbo boy?

Because near your shifts you will be running WAY too lean since you are letting the air vent.

Anyway.. just thinking since you will be dumping way too much fuel that maybe it will uhm......... explode out the back or something... ?

Nahh you'll probably just detonate your piston to hell!

The way anti-lag works on a WRC car is something like what you have in mind. They dump a bunch of gas into the cylinder when the exahust is about to open and ignite it when the exhaust is open this sends the flame front out the exhaust and into the turbo where the flame is still expanding. This keeps the turbo spooled up and shoots a nice flame out the back. It also has the down side of cooking the turbo after a time and I think they replace it every day.

I have missed a bunch of details but I'm pretty sure that's basically how it works.

Actually, way too rich. You vent the air. The fuel is added in the manifold, almost at the valves. The ECU will think more air is there than there is and add the appropriate amount of fuel. But the air won't be there so there will be too much fuel.

Hey!!
Now that I know about this exploit, I want my money back. I don't know if the SR20 can stand up to this kind of abuse!

Funny you should mention, but the day before I picked up Luke's, err my car, I emailed my friend back in Tucson and told him I wouldn't be buying his E36 M3 after all. It's a very nice car, but I much prefer my new G20.

I do plan to make some stereo upgrades, but nothing obnoxious. A nice amp, a little 8 inch sub I can hide away somewhere, and eventually a speaker upgrade. And yes, I plan to recirculate the BOV ASAP. Sorry to disregard your vision Luke, but I prefer the stealth factor. But to your credit, the car does run pretty well venting its metered air. Now someone let me know where I can find/fabricate an adapter to recirculate that Blitz DD BOV! Pleeease?

Sorry I haven't posted much, but I haven't gotten off work before 10 all week. Things will let up in a few weeks and I'll be on more.

actually Dan, before you bought the car, i already had some arrangement with Injen to re-fabricate the intercooler pipings (with mods to the BOV to recirulate). they are going to redo all the piping with polished aluminum, it will be done very nicely! i know the owner of Injen so he is willing to give me a great discount on those. If you ever shopped for polished aluminum piping you'll be surprised at how much they are...Chris at SR20 was gonna charge me $1500 for everything!!!
email me if you are interested, it's a fraction of that from Injen.

I'm guessing the polished aluminum would look just as good as the polished/coated mild steel that HS uses for their CAI, but it'd weight a fraction of what the steel does? Also, do they acutally polish the aluminum, or coat it with a chrome (looking) finish?
