Actually, to my recollection, I haven't been 'run off the road' by either. Cut off a few.. hundred times by the soccer moms maybe. And I've never had any problems with the 4x4s except for some tailgating.

I don't even know why I have to explain myself. I know I'm not a racist. I don't stand at freeway onramps calling people shitty drivers based on their race. I mentioned the ethnic background in the same respect I mention old white people that can't drive either. How is what I said any different from the creator of this post saying the US has the shittiest drivers?

Some people can drive, some people can't. I'm sure the majority of those people that I have had to avoid weren't born in this country and are unaccostomed to the rules and patterns of the US roadways. I know I was when I first drove and probably would be if I went to Asia or South/Central America.

I hope you accept my apologies for offending your idealist beliefs, but I don't feel like I was in the wrong. The thread title says the US has some of the shittiest drivers and I was simply relating my experience and observations. Being born a US citizen, I consider it to be my ethnic background, so take a look at the thread title and tell me it doesn't have a place. I don't really understand what more explanation you want from me?

Actually no. Ask someone who has to deal with them on a constant basis. When they're illegal, they don't have much incentive for getting a drivers license and therefore, insurance, do they? You can always tell the illegal ones on the street because they're driving,

B. They drive WAY under the speed limit, (sometimes half the limit), so the cops hopefully wont pull them over.

When the workers are getting out of the grape fields at around 2:00 - 3:00 pm, seriously, just park on the side of the road and stay there for a half hour or so, because you WILL get into an accident from all the workers trying to book out and get home. Not to mention that they're drunk 90% of the time when they're leaving the fields! (The ground under the vines is literally COVERED in tequila bottles and empty beer boxes). Yeah, sure, they're safe drivers all right...

Having been able to drive both in the USA and Germany, I must say as a whole, Americans are bad drivers. Every time there is an accident on the autobahn, it's typically an American who was just travelling at 100+ mph, the sole reason being only that they have that option. What many do not realize is that there speed limits on certain streches of the autobahn. Basically, if you are American and you are passing Germans, you're doing something wrong.

And also because Americans have a speed limit imposed on them, we do many other things while driving. On the other hand, a German does nothing but concentrate on driving; no cell phone, no eating, no putting on makeup, etc.

wow, I agree with Jay. Different licences for different vehicles would be great. It will most likely never happen but its a nice thought. Truck drivers have to have their CDL, so why not a certain classification for SUV and 3/4-1ton trucks, etc. Oh, and old people should have to retake the driving test every couple of years after they reach a certain age also!!

But I also think I should be in charge or deciding which old people get their liscences anyways. I have actually come up with a scheme to do some pre-screening on old people:

They come into the front door fo this building, where they must walk down a good sized flight of stairs. If they can't make it down the stairs in a halfway decent time, thats the first test, theyre out. then we come to the food table, where those who made it down the stairs are invited to eat. If they can't keep peas on a fork because their hand shakes too much, thats test two, theyre out. After that, whoever is left will be given some kind of video game to test hand-eye coordination as well as reflexes/reaction time. This will be graded completely subjectivly. after that, if there is anyone left, then we might try a road test.
