Re: tinting tail lights

Would that paint shit look good on a 93 Civic? I'd do it but I'm afraid the orange part would look dumb.

Anyone have pics of it?

first off, thank you for getting the thread back on topic. second off, what color is your car? tinting your tails would make everything black so the red AND orange would now be black. when you use your brakes or blinkers, the color WILL show through. and no, it would not look dumb

gnushit, hey...I just gave a quick answer to his question and a phone number and contact he could use to researcg more. I figured it better than to constantly clutter up the thread. And yes, I agree, and I'll say it again, a thread relevant to the topic is a better idea. Ispankyourmom, if you would like to discuss the topic more, start a thread on dart blocks, and send me a link to the thread. Besides, you'll get more responses in a new thread...

...Now back on topic...Kinked210, as gnushit stated, the red and orange only shine though when the light is lit. It the daytime, etc...it will look smoked out. The light only shines though when they are on, you turn or brake, etc. It won't look bad, it looks pretty good. Or, you could get red transparent Tailight paint and paint the orange part red. Your whole tailight area (scans the white reverse light area, mask that off), would light up red when you turned. That would look good too.

Ok thanks..can you list what types of paints I should get to do this?

I think I'll just smoke the entire tail lights.

VHT Nightshades is a transparent tailight paint designed to "smoke out" the tailights like you've seen in the pics in the thread. It's a pretty commen one to use. Also, you might consider spraying a light clear coat over it when you are done, to help gloss it up and add a protective layer over it.

I never glossed mine and they look alright.. not very shiney though. Hmmm, maybe I should add a few coats.

Yea, I didn't do that to the first pair I ever did. It looked alright at first, but after a while...you could definatly tell. Adding a few coats of clear definately helps. It helps protect it from dulling over time, and the shine and gloss really looks better than the flat look it gives normally. It also helps prevent scratchs a bit, as the clear it a bit tougher, at least I found it to be. And as I said, I really like the gloss and shine of the clear. Clear will also help keep it looking nice in the long run.
