Re: Where are F1 LM's located worldwide?
oops, i knew it was the Bolide but for some reason i put that {insert looser smiley thing here}. The sultan has at least one, i have pix and it was basically a shell that replaced the regular F50 body. Cabrio, i see what you mean about the extra now, thats interesting.
i didn't know that his F50's didn't count as part of the production run of 349, |

Re: Where are F1 LM's located worldwide?
The Bolide was never made. It's possible he has the prototype that was put together to present the concept to him. But so far as I know and so far as the 1,000 plus photographs of his collection show, no completed Bolide was ever delivered to him.
If he has the prototype, it's just an F50 with a poorly fitting body shell on it. |

The Sultan
I've been wondering why the Sultan has so many of the LM's (half, actually). It doesn't make any sense. Peloton basically summed up that question a few posts below.
Anyway, I like to have information all in one nice big chart, so I posted this one to help everybody, based on the info that Peloton and others have been able to collect. Parts highlighted in red are still yet to be confirmed. PS: This is how I think it goes so far. IF ANYBODY CAN CORRECT IT, PLEASE DO SO. ---------- Chassis: LM01 Location: Brunei Owner: Sultan (what's his name)? Description: One of two Black LM's. Chassis: LM02 Location: Japan or Brunei Owner: .... or Sultan Description: Papaya/Historic Orange Chassis: LM03 Location: U.S.A. (Massachusetts) Owner: Frank Selldorff Description: Papaya/Historic Orange *Note: according to Frank himself, this LM was previously owned by David Morisson, but he was forced to sell it due to legal reasons. Chassis: LM04 Location: Brunei Owner: Sultan (what's his name)? Description: One of two Black LM's. Chassis: LM05 Location: Japan or Brunei Owner: .... or Sultan Description: Papaya/Historic Orange Chassis: XP1LM Location: UK (Mclaren Factory) Owner: Mclaren Description Papaya/Historic Orange with black XP1 Badging ---------- Looking at the chart, you can see that we've completely confirmed the two LM's that we actually have photographs of: XP1 LM and LM03. We basically know the whereabouts of the two black ones (which are confirmed to exist...Mclaren doesn't lie). We don't know anything about the Japanese one (except that it's in Japan), and unfortunately unless somebody was to see it we don't know if it is Chassis 02 or 05. We may have photos of the Japanese one in that red GT car show, I'm not sure. Another good way to find info would be to go to Mclaren themselves, because while they were building the cars they must have took some pictures of each before setting them off into the world. That probably wouldn't be an easy task, though, because they might not be willing to confirm it. The key to solving the puzzle lies in the three LM's that the Sultan currently has ownership of, but since we'll never get any pics of them, we're going to have to assume that the Japanese LM is the only way we can confirm anything else. Can somebody please go to Brunei or Japan?

Well the LMs weren't "given" to anyone - people had to actually pay for them. As cool as it was, at the time there probably weren't too many people who wanted to pay 1.25 Million (or whatever the original price was) for a street legal race car. When you have a customer like the Sultan and his family members, who are willing to pay the price, why would you ever say no? I suspect that several of those people who might have been candidates for an LM were spending their money racing GTRs at the time. Some of those GTRs would eventually be converted for road use, effectively becoming somewhat of an LM if you think about it. Don't take that the wrong way though - they still aren't "LMs" in the true sense of things.
As for the cars - the Sultan most definitely owns the two black ones (LM1 & LM4) and one other LM. Mr Selldorff owns the third (LM3), and it was formerly owned by a Scottish economist named David Morrison. LM2 & LM5 are the ones who's location can not be confirmed. One is definitely in Japan, and the other would be the third Brunei LM. Besides XP1LM, there are no LMs in the UK at this time. >8^) ER |

All right, I understand all this now, but what I still don't understand is what the Sultan does with all these cars. They must sit in sheds with tarps for their entire lives, otherwise somebody probably would have seen a picture. I was just wondering, who is the Sultan, like name wise, if you knew. I don't really care, it just looks better if you know his name on the chart. What about that Japanese one? Nobody knows anything about that one either? If it is really in Japan's collection you'd think somebody would have pictures or know something about it. Who's the owner? By the way, if anybody's seen those old pictures of the red F1 GT, I think the orange F1 you can see in the background could be the Japanese LM. Just a guess. Like before, I could be wrong.

Re: Where are F1 LM's located worldwide?
yes, there is a burgundy gt, orange lm and an f1 road car in some guys collection in Japan as well as an F50 iirc. About what he does with the cars..he (sultans son, again, iirc. feel free to correct me) used to drive some of them around, not really the mclarens but the bentley javas (nice bentley coupe), dominators (nice bentley suv) etc until something happened (illegal i think) and his son was told to leave brunei. the cars were put away and now are just sitting in warehouses.....such a shame

This is what happens when someone has so much money they don't know what to do with it. A early roadcar came in from the Sultan to be refurbished at 'Cars before a resale and it was not in a good state. It had less than 50 miles on it but the paint was starting to peel and the tyres had gone hard. No wonder people dismiss the car as a rich man's plaything. No car deserves this kind of disrespect...

To be honest I can't remember but it was canary yellow (060?) and had the Sultan's crests above the locks as well as on the wheel bolts instead of the F1 logo.
