Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
$4.8mm. What was the estimate? I think upper end was $7?

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
I did half expect it to be around the $4-5m mark, given the limited things you could do with it compared to other high value fetching cars. But as mentioned given its condition and spares package and the potential of enthusiastic bidding wars it couldnt easily snuck up to 6-7. Still would be a solid investment if things keep going the way they are!
Lets hope the new owner gives it some use! |

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
Stream in HD? What is this, 2014? Oh wait.
![]() I cringed when one of the auctioneers said "the most successful F1" or something along those lines. Okay, let's ignore 01R. ![]() They could've done a better job with the video quality, but also presentation of the car and showed whatever spares it came with. I'm sure bidders already knew at that level of spending, but you'd be surprised at how presentation can add value when compared to not putting in as much effort. |

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
I have a video for those who missed the feed - will get it off the camera and upload it this afternoon.
I was expecting the bidding to stall and then run up a little more as we saw with Gooding's auction of F1 062 back in 2010. Perhaps not participating at Le Mans was what prevented us from seeing more money changing hands. Anyway, I hope all involved are pleased and this result. ![]() It does continue to prove that the longtail GTRs still can't quite command the same prices we have seen for the F1 road versions. This seems to confuse people who don't pay such close attention, but obviously remains true. There are short tailed GTRs that have done so much better but they have the added benefit of reasonable conversion for road use and so far greater use potential. Anyway, I hope we see 21R getting out on track again in the future and congrats to the owner for a well bought car. >8^) ER |

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
Why in HD?
Then everybody sees that they were a bit lazy and didn't change the wheelnuts...or is it the reason for the bottom range price ![]() What is one of the biggest points in this market beside it's condition, is the history. Off course it does have some very good numbers and wins, but it missed the biggest name; participating and finishing LeMans. Beside this auction result, the most important question for us is; will it be back on track on public events? Fingers crossed and hope so.

Nice shot of it on the block from the front of the room with the final bid on the screen behind it:

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
Here is the video I recorded ( in HD
) of the bid process for anyone who missed out on the action:* Apologies for the minute it took me to notice the stupid mouse pointer still in the middle of my laptop screen. ![]() And here is the video Josh shot from inside the room - this captures the car coming onto the stage which the live feed recording doesn't, but after that the rest of it is going to be generally similar. ![]() From this angle one thing I noticed towards the end is that all of Charlie and David's focus was on the table to their left with the phone agents - they had a room full of people in front of them and while there wasn't still an active bidder in the room it didn't even appear they were looking for a new one who might appear. Seemed odd anyway, not to suggest that anything untoward or perhaps scripted would ever occur at an auction with a big ticket car... ![]() >8^) ER |

Re: GTR 21R to be auctioned by Gooding in Scottsdale - Jan 2014
I can't help to wonder this.
![]() Now searched some images of #21R what I have collected this forum and so on; seems McLaren has done the change to the front aerodynamics? It was made 2002-2006 when McLaren rebuild it and after that there is that large air intake before front fender. British GT it wasn't there, but 2009 in Modena it was there. Also I have some "museum" images taken from this forum, where is #21R is some kind of show room with other racers (including orange shorttail GTR which is #07R or #11R? or is it?...?) and the air intake is those images. 1. Which year it was there in "museum?" 2. McLaren did that large air intake then? Or did it? 3. Why it have been done? 4. It isn't there in 1997 or British GT race images, but suddenly after McLaren? completely rebuild, it is there. 5. Anyone know anything about this?
