Im not trying to make this sound negative but what it seems liek everyone in my area now, the teenagers(me being one myself) alot infact most of them think imports are better than domestics. I just say ok your never going to solve the war between the two. People have there own opinion and what not. I think after the Fast and Fuorius the import seen exploded. thats fine it doesn't bother me. what bothers me is when some kid come up to me and thinks that buying a honda civic and putting 10 grand into thew motor just to get it to around 400 hp, is the greatest thing!!! that seems to piss me off more than anything else......i see no purpose in that when you can go out and get a camaro or a mustang or any domestic muscle car and have the same amount of hp for cheaper. I know the only imports i like are like the ones you said your skylines and rx7 and what not.

sorry to bring this off thread.

My 2 cents

You hate imports cause people think thier cars are better then yours? that seems a bit insecure. I'm not going to argue about import with domestic with you, I'll let my sig take care of that one...

BACK on topic...

Today, it's known to be impossible to travel into the future, but in the next 100 years, we'l be able to travel into the future. You're wondering how the heck that's gonna happen, my teacher told me a while ago that if something moves faster than light, it'll move really slow in reality... so if I'm moving much faster than light, my time is going way slower than YOUR time... which translates into everything going fast for me and you seeing me go slow, and while I"m going slow, so does my age...... this way, everything besides me can go 10 times as fast making me travel into the future. Get it?

I dunno about traveling into the past What has happened has already hapened, I don't think time is reversable, I could be wrong though

Imports vs domestics is a tired old argument that has been done to death in most of AF's forums already.Drive what suits you,and have the courtesy to respect other peoples' choices. What they like might not be yourr cup of tea,but unless you are buying it for them, there preferences are no less important than yours.

As for the impossible thing that might be possible in 50 years?

I'll go with the idea of Mach 4 air/space comercial flights.

That would be very cool; however it will be over Mach 26 because according to NASA a vehicle must be propelled to this speed just to make it to space. Ronald Regan's administration started working on this in the 80's. They say you would be able to fly from Tokyo to New york in two hours.

I have always been intrested in the time/space stuff. I don't know about the whole going back in time stuff-the idea that if you go back in time and mess with something and it alters the future to a drgree that you or the science that took you in to the past in the first place is now gone is a bit much to swallow. However traveling into the future or past via a worm hole or such could be possible. We are all living in the past/present and future all at the same time. So why not??

If we (as a species) actually make it that long:

Some kind of inhaled gas or nanotechnology that will scrub all the pollutants from your lungs (mainly cigarette tar, etc).

A cheap, efficient, environmentally friendly way to dispose/recycle refuse.

Personal technology implants, such as microphones in your lip and tiny speakers in your skull behind your ear that could be used as a telephone, music listening device, voice-activated controls, etc.

IF people would just stop smoking, we wouldn't need that...

I anticipate brain implants so that people with broken eyes can see via camera...and instead of having a computer monitor it all shows up in virtual reality in your head. Same with audio - thumping bass in your head - but the people with the loud stereos at 2 a.m. will still blast them, as half the reason for a loud stereo is to impress people with how much of an asshole you can be. (Same with revving motorcycles at 5 a.m., and missionaries.)

Also, cars will drive themselves (we already have adaptive cruise and the Nissan Cima in Japan has "lane keep", reads the lane lines and stays inside them), but the worst drivers will still insist on driving themselves around.

Basically I see technology continuing to make our lives easier, accompanied by rampant depression as people find themselves comparatively useless, and assholes finding newer, faster, louder ways to be assholes.

I don't think technology really makes our lives all that easier... certain things yes, like being able to use the internet as a tool and all, but it's like when I was younger and personal computers were about to be a huge thing... people marvled at the fact that the widespread use of computers would result in a gigantic decrease in the amount of paper consumed, when in actuality it resulted in a gigantic INCREASE of paper consumption. I think it's much the same for "making lives easier"... Just makes it more hectic...

You've read Vonnegut, and Bradbury (I think you have, anyhow. Think, The Veldt), you should know what I'm talking about. I don't mean easier by leaps and bounds especially compared to just a decade or two ago, but compare to 75 years ago, when clothes and dishes were washed by hand, and physical labor was most of the workforce. Very different place from now. A lot of the problem now is that people don't feel very valuable...such as they go to their jobs, work all day, and for what? The sense of accomplishment is small. Who cares if I don't go bag groceries today, or I don't program code tonight, etc. No one lives or dies because of that. Consequently a lot of people don't have pride in their work. It was a lot different years ago, when the jobs had a more obvious and direct impact on people's lives, on a more local level. No time to type the rest of this, maybe more later.

I'll agree with that... I was mainly writing that from my perspective of a mere 26 years of age, so I didn't fully take everything into account. Haven't really read any Bradbury, but Vonnegut yes.

One thing that WOULD make my life easier is a cat-litter box that really truely cleans itself... Littermaid is worthless, and the only other one I've seen got pretty poor reviews...

Did anyone mention cloning? Alot of people would be agianst it by saying "you're playing God" but others would say... "God would be proud of how his humans achieved this". What do you guys think?

If a cloned human growes up to be like Hitler or Huessin, everybody will blame the cloning thing....

If you do decide to start reading Bradbury, the two stories I'd recommend VERY highly are Frost and Fire and Fever Dream. They can both be found in the book here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...13#reader-link
and individually in R is for Rocket and Medicine for Melancholy. Also, if you want to read The Veldt which I referred to earlier, it's included in its entirety on the sample pages from The Illustrated Man.

But back on topic - as for the cloning argument, it's hard to say right or wrong from an ethical standpoint, but I can say it's impossible to duplicate people. Same genetics or not, so much is randomized with regards to not only personality, but also appearance, and so much is based on experience that we certainly wouldn't have duplicates running around. I read about a dog they cloned, the original was brown spotted and the clone was black and white, or some such. The fur looked NOTHING the same. On people, moles are completely random, and a clone would have different birthmarks in different places..
