Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

very happy with these - I already had the Engineers Manual and bought these as a set of 3 to keep them together. For a techy like me they are ace

I now need to work on getting the 1995 / 1996 versions

Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

Hello to you all
I have just found this site and would like to introduce myself. I was the Chief Mechanic for Gulf Racing GTC Competition from 1995 until 1999.
I have a vast collection of models, paintings, documents, books, team clothing, etc etc that I have saved. I am really pleased to see that there is still a great deal of interest in this classic era of sportscar racing. I will always remember the days of racing the Mclaren F1 GTR with the support of Gulf amongst many others. We had the best job in the world at that time......BPR Champions in 1996, Le Mans GT winners in 1997 and many other race wins....Suzuka 6 Hours, Monza, Jarama, Jerez, Nogaro to name a few.
If anyone would like further info on my collection please let me know.
I'm now living back home in Australia and almost retired.......always happy to have a chat about the great days of the Mclaren F1 GTR and maybe I can help to fill in some information...still in touch with team members after all these years....20!!!! and am going to plan a team reunion soon.
Best Regards
Rob

Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

Welcome exGTC1 as most will know on here the 1995 Gulf cars are a favourite passion of mine so anything you would be happy to share will be more then welcome and received with the greatest of pleasure.
Of great interest to me personally is anything that made the Gulf cars different from the rest of the GTR's.

Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

Thanks to all of you that sent me a welcome to the discussion. I will post some pics of my models and other bits and pieces that may be of interest over the coming weeks. This will be work in progress as I have only just started to catalogue my collection. I need to take the models out of their cases to get a good pic.
I have attached some paintings that are unique as I commissioned Simon Ward to paint them. First one is Jarama 1996 where we finished first (Ray Bellm and James Weaver) and second (Pierre Henri Raphanel and Lyndsay Owen-Jones). The second is both cars through Eau Rouge with James and Raff driving. We finished second at Spa and I have one of the conrods that let go whilst Lyndsay was driving that put an end to their race.
From memory the engine rebuild was over GBP100,000 in 1996!
I used to have the itemised invoice from BMW for this rebuild...it was about 20 pages...down to the last copper washer. Sadly I cannot find it as I think a box or two went missing on our move from the UK to Oz.
The Porsches started to become a problem for us around this time. How can you compete with a pure racing car entering the GT class? We did compete though...... and won the BPR Championship in 1996.
The third pic is the actual Gulf decal that was on the rear 1/4 panel of the car we lost due to a fire during the 1997 Le Mans race with Andrew Gilbert Scott driving. A lot more to tell about that car and where it ended up in a later life. A good job we were insured!!!

Just tried to upload pics and not working.....off to watch first practice in Bahrain now and will try later. Any tips on uploading appreciated....file is under 300KB so I'm not sure what the problem is.
