Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

Sebastian, I reduced the width off rearcover from 96 to 92mm. It looks better. It looks much better and more like the real car. The rearcover was just to wide. Soon I'll post some pictures.

Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

The spaceframe is nearing its completion. I've ordered different kind off hardware te make the suspension. The rearhood was to fat, so I shaved over 4mm off the hood and looks much better now. More into scale...

After that I worked on some parts. First I experimented with one off the wheels...

(Yes, I know. "LF" must be "RR" or maybe in German "RH" )

I allready worded on the seat and covered it with red cloth. Now the back off the seat is Glassfibered...

Also worked on the engine. One part off the aitintake is glassfibered now...

In anticipation on some hardware I've ordered to build the suspension I started on two 1:43rd American Miniatures whitemetal kits. Both Porsches, 550 Spyder en the RSK. Since they are not difficult to build I started rightaway. I also had two diorama's wich were perfect. This is the result...

I know, I'm a little offtopic here . So..... on the 917 again. I recieved the hardware ordered by RB Motion and Scale Hardware and OOOH BOY, it's beautifull. See for yourself...

The RB Motion rod-ends.

RB Motion shocks.

(These shocks are mindblowing, when put together they even work.)

To connect the suspension on the spaceframe I use the threaded nuts and bolds from Scale Hardware with the correct washers.

On to work on the spaceframe. After the mountingpoints are soldered on the frame it's going to be sprayed satin black. Till then.

Cool stuff! On the engine cover you shaved away those 2mm each on the outsides of the wheel arches, right!?

In Robrex WIP on the 935 there is an excellent "how to do" here's the link

Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

Done some work on the 917 again. Progress is very slow. Sometimes I think what the hell I'm doing. The suspensionmountings are giving me a hard time. A lot try and error and starting over again. To give you an idea I followed this progress with the camera...

I start with some thin coppersheet and cut a line of.

Then bend into a U-shape.

Cut to the correct lenght.

Drilling 0,5mm holes.

Done and ready for soldering.

To give you an idea I made some of the suspension with a copper rod.

Another view at both sides.

Frontsuspension almost done.

To stay focussed I worked on the rear of the spaceframe. I soldered the mountingplates for the rearlights.

Before spraying the frame satin black I still have to do:
- pedalmountings
- stabilizers front and back
- steeringcolom
- suspensionmountings
- frame for sparetire

Sssssssooooooooo.....
