Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
Quote:
That restoration site points out the real weak point of the Dino 246, a steel block. The 206GT had an all alloy engine and body. Early 246GT's also had some alloy body panels(mid 1969 production). The power to weight ratio was better for the 206GT too. The 206GT looks better due to the shorter wheelbase(my opinion). The 206GT is also alot rarer( around 150 made). Only one 206GT raced, at Sebring in 1969 by NART. You can see by the production figures why they made so few Ferrari 206's and so many 246's. The FIAT Dino 2000 took most of the Ferrari production up to mid 1969 when the 246GT Dino started its production. The steel block FIAT Dino is very rare as most of the engine units went into the "Ferrari" Dino's after mid 1969. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo-Strictly 43rd revival 2010 |

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
I haven't had a lot of free time this past week but I've managed to get the first seat finished. Phew!
Are there any comments/criticisms/suggestions for me before I send myself mad working on finishing the second seat? Jon. ![]() ![]() |

Seat looks great!
PS: The headrest supports look to be unequal but I'm sure it's only temporary. |

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
Wheel are not yet 100% ready, but getting closer every day.
Lack of proper tools is a hindrance, but I didn't manage to find a file that is only 0.2-0.3 millimeters thick and the thinning and cleaning up work is going slowly. For now I'm at this stage: ![]() Once I'll have finished to thin the spokes down to a realistic size and clean it up properly I'll start casting it in resin. PS: Sorry for the rather bad picture but this material is a pain in the behind to take pictures of. |

Very nice work!!! Will look great on the Fujimi kit after the body is flared.

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
I'm really excited to see these features added for one of my favorite cars. If one or both of you are going to make copies of the seats or wheels, count me in as a customer!

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
Hi Allan,
The Dino is my long-term project - I work on it for a few days, then put it away for a few weeks, work a few days, rest a few weeks. I'm finding it quite an intense project! During the 'rest periods' I try to develop my car modelling skills by (very slowly!) doing mostly out of the box builds, but trying new things on each one so I can apply them to the Dino. For instance, I'm currently working on Fujimi's Ferrari 512BB and I'm planning to make it my first model that will be displayed with the engine visible...so I'll be trying to add detail to the engine and learn lessons for when I do the Dino's engine. The thread on SPC seemed to die a death (not enough interest maybe??) but perhaps I should resurect it one day. In the meantime, here are a couple of photos showing what I've done to the inside of the front bonnet - it will be displayed open so I thought I'd better improve the kit piece. Thinning the plastic was nerve-wracking but I feel the result is worth all the anxiety I suffered! ![]() ![]() As for the seats, I'd like to get castings of them if only for my own use on another project, another day. If I'm successful in getting them cast in resin (either by myself or by someone else) I'll let you all know. Jon. |

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
The good ol' Enthusiast kit cook-off, was it? I had plans on joining, but the last thing I need is another uber-detailed half-finished project.

Re: Dino 246 'Daytona' insert seats.
Little update concerning the wheels.
First resin copy has been made. I feel it is an OK result and I doubt I can make it much better. Let me know what you think. ![]() PS: The tire is from the Fujimi Dino kit. |
