Re: Pocher F40 WIP

Uh oh... There's an Autograph Transkit on ebay... starting bid $1.00... Oh my... resist the temptation, resist the temptation

Nah... it would make it too easy, right? Where's the fun in that?

Would love to hear more on some of your techniques and materials, especially the painted effects you have already achieved on the engine. Also where do you source your brass bolts from?

Question regarding casting the body from the Pocher white metal body and then laying up in fibreglass.....Surely, your tubular body chassis will then be the wrong size if you then have the proper thickness??.....hope you can work that one out (no doubting you will looking at your skills).

Good luck
Yes, the newer Pocher kits leave alot to be desired, but that is my motivation, right?
I'll try to answer your questions individually...the paint/textures on everything are derived from what the real parts look/feel like. Is it a smooth finish, machined finish, rough finish, etc? Then what can I use to replicate the finish... I use textured primers, flat or semi-gloss topcoats and even craft buffing paints like gold leaf or real silver for weathering effects to simulate real metal. Plus, all of the standard lacquers like Metalizer and Alclad to achieve the "right looking" finish. The engine has not been fully weathered yet, so it should look even more realistic when complete.
I get my hardware from a variety of sources, depending on what I'm looking for/need, but some of the sources are Scale Hardware, Micro Fasteners, Rb Motion, Model Motorcars, etc. The brass nuts, bolts came from Micro Fasteners, I believe.
The body question is a good one and one I did give alot of thought to, but it won't be too much of an issue because the only dimensions that are in question are really the A,B and C pillars and the roof, which I can lay-up a little thicker to maintain the frame dimensions. The rest of the mountint points are bracket type which can be "cheated" to maintain the correct dimensions. We'll see as that part of the build unfolds....

Thanks for the interest,

Re: Pocher F40 WIP

Very very cool!!!!!!

Keep this one going for sure please.

Just a heads up before you make too much progress though, the decal on the oil filter is incorrect (is a window tint one).

Also, what size were the acorn nuts you have on the heads? I'd like to get some for my own F40.

Keep up the great work and progress, be watching very closely.

I knew the decal was not correct... it is actually the DOT decal for the windows which is why I put it on backwards, so you can't read it. Didn't happen to have a Mahle decal and the filter ends up buried under all the intake/turbo plumbing, so it's only an issue in the photos. Thanks for pointing that out, though. Sharp eye... The acorn nuts are from Marvin at www.modelmotorcars.com and they are part # A007. They're $1 a piece and I ordered 50 to do the cam covers and the intake plenum bolts, with a few left over. Hope that helps... Thanks for looking!!!

Re: Pocher F40 WIP

Sorry, not much to post... Have had some family health issues recently and it has taken it's toll on me both physically and mentally. Have not had the energy to sit down at the workbench this week. My 1 year old is just getting over a devastating stomach virus and my father is scheduled for open-heart surgery next week, so things are looking a little brighter. I may fab some suspension brackets tonight or tomorrow, so I'll post photos when I do... I keep watching the other threads, though... lots of cool stuff going on. Thanks for looking!!!

Re: Pocher F40 WIP

BM1,

Mate, not good to hear about your baby and your dad. Hope it all goes well. Love to see more on the build, but do what you can when you can, family comes first.

Re: Pocher F40 WIP

Okay, first the family update... baby is over the stomach virus, dad goes in for bypass surgery on Wednesday... I have now contracted the stomach virus and spent yesterday and today in bed... horrible virus, lots of muscle pain and the associated unpleasantries that go with it...yuck! If the baby had what I have, she is a trooper, because I have been miserable. Just spent a few minutes in the shop and whipped up the 4 front upper suspension mounts, so I thought I'd post them before they get attached... Enjoy!

Re: Pocher F40 WIP

Okay, final update before I turn in for the night... As they call them in the Adult Entertainment Industry, these are the "money" shots. This is where you find out how good your measurements are... I'll let you all decide... Enjoy!

And a teaser of the next project waiting in the wings... Full-on GT2 conversion, just as insane as the F40...
