I get really pissed off with people that want to moan about the site....were you all not a newbie once and posted the same stuff.
We have a whole bunch of new people coming here which only goes to show how popular it has become.
One thing i'd like to see better is the thread title. Make it clear so people know what it is about before you open it.
Posting a thread called Has anybody got........ is a waste of time. Dont waste peoples time opening it up....IMO. Ask what you want...that way people see the thread, they know it has nothing to do with them and they can move on.
Another idea i've been think about is maybe breaking the threads down into different section. Have a look at the G20 FORUM . We broke this into different sections when it started to get to big.
If we do it(which i'd have to talk about with Jay) we need to find out what sections we would need.
Example......
Intro for newbies
Painting/priming
Progress pics
Finished pics
General Questions
????????
???????
??????
??????
I love this idea.It would make everything more organized.

djmr2 is simply stating the facts as they are; I couldn't agree more with him.

As for the digital camera situation, for my first few months on these forums I used a 35mm camera and developed the pictures at walmart, then scanned them onto my pc. Don't complain that you don't have access to a digital camera because a 35mm works fine if you learn to work around its limits (you can also ask walmart to put the pictures on cd if you don't have a scanner). If this means you'll have to wait 3 more days before you post your OH SO EXCITING progress thread, then be it so. A progress thread with pictures is, in my opinion, 400% more better than one that simply states you will be modifying this or that on whatever car.

For the newbies, you guys obviously know you are newbies. You have to take an extra effort to learn the ways of these forums and get into the flow of things. A lot of these arguments of recent have began due to newbies ignoring the given FAQ and newbie guides, and going their own way. A forum is a community, just as a local club. You wouldn't join a club at school and start blaring out your ideas and trying to work it to be how you want it. I don't know how long AF Modeling forums have been around, but when I first came I made an attempt to "lurk" for a while before posting a topic. I occassionaly posted replies in threads, mainly supporting people on their ideas and such. Is that so hard to do?

And for the single question threads, think about your question before clicking that "New Topic" button. Could it have been addressed? Perhaps a member here can give the answer in a PM? Certain question threads can be helpful when the question is innovative(e.g., it isn't usually addressed and can be helpful for all members). I'm seriously tired of browing through 10-20 crap threads when I check the forums in the morning, only to find 1 or 2 progress threads, and having maybe only 1 of them with pictures.

I probably have more to say, but that's all I can spit out right now.

i agree with most of what TheSyndicate said. there's too much garbage posts to wade through these days, and most of it can be attributed to newbies that took no effort to research the way that this forum operates before they decided to start posting and asking all these questions. i hate progress threads with no pictures, although i don't blame the camera-less person for that. and i'm sick of people trying to "put more life back into the boring forum" by making a thread asking how many paints you own etc. if you're bored of this forum, then by all means, you're very free to go elsewhere. no-one's keeping you here!

i think PMan's idea would make this forum the place it was when i joined up.

Define 'N00b'...

I think one of the primary issues we have here are people saying that 'N00bs' are the problem. Of all the people that have posted that, I would say that 90% of them have been on these forums for 6-8 months. Sorry, but in my book, that makes you N00bs as well. Doesn't matter how many hours you spend on the forum a day, or how many times you have posted.

Your definition of N00b appears to be someone who is > a lvl 3 person. Try to understand that MAYBE some people are mature enough to have been on the Internet longer than you've been breathing. Just 'cause you're a teenager, you think you know it all.

The primary issue on these forums is a little respect, and a little thought for your fellow modeller. Rants and flames aren't acceptable. ANYWHERE. If you walk into a shop and start yelling that the prices are bad, or where's the ketchup, the owner will chuck you out. That should be the same here.

Yes, I agree that topics could be better defined. That would be great. If it's not an interesting topic, don't read it. Simple. If a book looks boring, do you read it? Nope... same here.

If someone is stuck, cool. Let them ask. That's what this is about. If they have a good idea they'd like people to know about, or think is useful, that's great too. If you finished a model, tell us about it.

But please, if you had a bad day - keep it to yourself, or take it out on your cat or something. Or smash a model you didn't build so well. Whatever, just leave it off the forums. It's not nice.

Oh, and stop saying P-Man builds great models. I'm sick of it. He shouldn't be allowed to post pictures of his models... :silly2:

Now, let's go build models.....

Never try to solve the problem themselve and hope to depend on people to do it for them, then what's the brain for? If you don't learn from mistake, how the hell you going to learn and improve your skill. I believe the older modelers solve the problem by themselve unless we did try all kind of way and still can't solve it, then maybe try to ask for help. Not found a problem you have and keep bugging people here to solve it for you. To share is good, but too depend on others decision is really not good for you. :smoker2:

What gets me is a lot of the newcomers aren't likely to read this.

Wasn't asking, simply stating that this thread should become a sticky or something; that way it'd reach a larger audience and everyone would understand why the forums are becoming the way they are.

Anyways, I certainly hope AF goes back to normal...ie, like it was before.

Just my 2c.
I agree, and the main reason i came to this board was because everyone gave amazlying friendly responses, as if i've known them all my life.

Murco no longer comes here due to somebody's lack of communication and unneeded comments!
To that person I say this :finger4:. Because you can't work out how to communicate we lost a very very good modeller because of you. Again,:finger4:. I wasn't aware that Murco left untill I saw what Antonio mentioned.

OTOH, Murco chose to leave. No one made him. He also deleted his own threads on his way out. No one did that for him.

IMO, this thread is about our problems. Please move on to our solutions.
